This is my personal preference for writing out characters, though you are free to use it as you wish. Please do not make a perfect character; flaws make a more interesting personality.

Nightmare
Name: Adrienne Branwen “Raven” Morgan (she only goes by Raven and won’t answer to either Adrienne or Branwen)
Nicknames: Rae, Rave (her personal favorite), Morgan (usually only used when someone wants to irritate her)
Age: 17
Gender: F
Appearance: Raven has tangled, matted, uneven, jet black hair to her mid back. She usually keeps it down and hardly ever does anything with it, preferring just to let it hang there. The irises of her eyes are completely night black, but there a few, small flecks of amber dotted close to the pupils. Her nose is unusually long and pointed, slightly resembling a bird’s beak, and sharp, black talons protrude from her fingertips and toes, instead of fingernails and toenails. Black, feathery wings extend from her shoulder blades, enabling her to fly over short distances, and more feathers cover her back, eventually tapering off to form a tail. She is slightly short for a nightmare, only about 5’6, but is very lean, agile, and flexible. She has a willowy, slender figure, but her calf muscles and abs are well-defined. She has an angular, bony face and high cheekbones. Her bottom lip is a bit bigger than her top one
She normally prefers to wear only a black and gray feather cape, since her back, shoulder blades, and behind are covered in black, blue, and red feathers, and her arms, stomach, chest, neck, head, and legs are covered in gray skin with swirling patterns (kind of similar to X-Men’s Mystique). She almost always wears thick, black eyeliner and dark eyeshadow and is never seen without red paint in vertical streaks starting underneath her eyes and ending in various places, usually across from her lips, on her cheekbones, or on her chin. She has a raven’s wing tattooed on the outside of both her upper arms, and a dream catcher dangles from her pierced belly.
Personality: Raven is a mysterious, quirky teenager who mostly keeps to herself. She’s very paranoid most of time and is usually lost in her own little world. She doesn’t say much to strangers or people she doesn’t know very well, but she can become very chatty and talkative when she’s around people she feels comfortable with.
Raven won’t stand to be insulted, ignored, or dismissed. If she’s pushed around or has a problem with someone, you can safely bet that she won’t stay silent for long. This seems to be the only exception to her generally quiet and aloof attitude, because when she confronts someone, she has no qualms about giving them a piece of her mind.
Raven has a short temper, little to no patience for incompetence, and usually prefers just to do things herself. Even though she can have quite the commanding presence when she wants to, she is not a good leader and does not work well in groups, since she has to have everything her own way exactly the way she wants it. Plus, she’s paranoid and doesn’t trust anyone but herself to do anything right. She also has a particularly negative and demoralizing view of most other people, especially other girls near her age.
Raven hates most authority figures with a burning passion and takes great pleasure in purposely disobeying the rules. Most of the other dreams and nightmares see her as an irritating, little troublemaker, and she’s spent so much of her time listening to lectures from her elders that she can and will just about repeat one word for word at the drop of a hat.
To those who know her better, she loves having fun and can’t stand to be bored. You’ll almost never find her just sitting around. She always has to be active or moving around in some way or another, a trait that gets her into quite a lot of trouble. Consequently, there’s never a dull moment when she’s around.
Raven is extremely stubborn, though. Once she makes up her mind about something, it can’t be changed. Even if she’s shown to be wrong, her unhealthy amount of pride won’t allow her to change her opinion.
Once someone has betrayed her trust or hurt her, it’s impossible for her to forgive them. She’ll hate them for all eternity and will vow to make the rest of their life as miserable as possible. When she is especially hurt, she will sometimes take it out on herself, usually by cutting out some of her feathers or hair.
When she isn’t out causing trouble, she likes to fly over the Midnight Forest or around Shade Castle (sometimes to cause trouble, though) to be alone with her thoughts. Although she would never admit it, she feels very lonely and empty inside nearly all the time, which is why she takes unnecessary risks and causes trouble, to fill the void inside her or to take her mind off the hurt.
Raven can’t usually be bothered to do things for other people, unless she gets something out of it, but she does have a soft spot for other nightmares who are part bird, like her.
She loves riddles, games, puzzles, plays on words, and anything that requires her to think outside the box. When she’s around people she trusts, she becomes very silly and playful and will attempt to engage in all sorts of games with them, as opposed to her aloof, distant attitude around nearly everyone else.
Family:
Father: Eoghan
Mother: Ginelle
History: Even as a young child, Raven was always the odd one out. Her head was usually in the clouds, and she could normally be found in the principal’s office or in detention after school for, “disrupting the class… again” as her teachers often put it. She never meant to disturb the class, but her excessive amount of energy caused her to tap her fingers, doodle instead of taking notes, shake her leg, tap her feet, hit her pencil against the desk, hum, and engage in other noisy activities.
Ever since she was little, she had been taught that children should be seen and not heard, a rule that she thought was incredibly stupid and totally unfair, but she tried her hardest to please her parents. Although they didn’t pay her much attention, she did the best she could to behave like the perfect, little girl they wanted her to be, thinking if she could just be a responsible, dutiful, smart, well-behaved little girl her parents would finally give her the love and affection other children received from their parents.
As she grew older, she started rebelling more and more, acting out on purpose for attention that she never received at home. She gave up on being the perfect, darling little child her parents wanted when she was thirteen, staying out late at night, partying until dawn, pickpocketing, stealing items from stores, underage drinking, smoking, having sex with whoever she happened to be in a relationship with at the time, doing graffiti on whatever she pleased along with many, other things.
Her parents tried to control her by removing the door to her room, nailing her window shut, and doling out other kinds of punishment to try and correct her behavior, but it was too late at that point. Raven had strayed too far and been ignored for too long to return the sweet, little child she once had been.
Eventually, she became fed up with the restrictions her parents attempted to force on her and ran away one night to live with her boyfriend. The relationship, however, didn’t last long after, and she found herself without a place to call home once again.
For months she lived on the road, hitching rides from whoever would give her one, until she found an old, abandoned motel just outside Storm City, where her parents live. She’s made the motel her new home but still flies into town every day to go to school and to cause trouble whenever possible.
Other: She is an only child.
She does not like long silences, except when she is feeling sad or down.
She hates good dreams and dreamers.
She is on a first-name basis with Timor, Diffido, Felicitas, and Delectatio from causing mischief at their castles.
Is she okay, Chess and Demi?
