Garett MacArthur Category: Action/Adventure and Fantasy/Sci-fi Rating: **** Read: August 27-September 11
Summary: This book is mainly about a boy named Cole Randolph. Cole was an average thirteen year old boy until one night of Halloween trick-or-treating leads to him and his friends going to a mysterious place called the Outskirts. Shortly after arrival in the Outskirts Cole and his friends are marked as slaves, which entails a life full of hard work and a very slim chance of ever gaining your freedom. After becoming a slave, Cole is separated from his friends and is sold to a group called the Sky Raiders. Before long Cole and his newly made friend, Mira, plan an escape that will take them all across the Outskirts with danger never far away.
Personal Reaction: Brandon Mull is probably one of my most favorite authors because his books are intense and adventurous which makes it hard to put the book down. I really like how he can make a fantasy book like this entertaining and captivating but not too far-fetched to make it too bizarre to enjoy. I like that the names of places in this book are out of the ordinary and give off little hints about their own unique attributes. I also liked that the majority of the important characters in this book were teenagers. I like that because it shows that anyone can make a difference even if they are young. All around I thought that this was a well written book.
