Dragons, dragons and-you guessed it, dragons! discussion

What are your views on dragons? Do they need to have human-like consciousness, even be able to talk to their riders, or do you like them more if they were vicious beasts whose thoughts are as alien to humans as their land kissing cousins', the alligators'? What number of limbs should they have? And can their diet be other than the blood soaked flesh of other animals?

Highly intelligent and conscious, varied personalities like humans have, telepathic or spoken speech. Also 'feral' dragons in my world so unthinking, destructive beasts in that case. I prefer dragons with four limbs, definitely carnivores :-)
