I tried to read books in the order of the categories listed, so I started the year off reading my book with 500+ pages. Outlander was my choice. I liked the historical fiction aspect of it, but the adult scenes went overboard and distracted from the good parts of the story. I have ended up reading several other 500+ page books this year for other categories. In hindsight, that may have not been a good choice since I'm not sure at this point if I will finish the challenge. Maybe I should have chosen shorter books for other categories.

I have the exact same opinion about the adult scenes in this book. I wrote in my review that the book went off the rails for 200 pages in the middle. They didn't add anything to the plot and they were so violent. I thought I was done with this series after finishing this book, but I don't know. I'm contemplating the next in the series. The parts that aren't over the top are so good.I had to completely overhaul my categories last month and switch everything around because I was in the same boat. I'm reading The Mists of Avalon (900 pages) for "published the year you were born" and I had some other 500+ page books on my list yet. Have you thought about shuffling books around or finding some shorter books for the categories you have left?
I've heard that the adult scenes and other books in the series aren't as bad, so I may give the next book a try.I have chosen mostly shorter books for the categories I have left. I just chose too many long books early in the year that ended up taking me too long to read. I have been able to catch up recently, so I have exactly 12 books to read in the 12 weeks we have left in the year. I may be able to finish!
I've been afraid to look into the future books in case there were spoilers, but that helps me make my decision. I'll save the next book for after I finish this challenge, though! This is me breaking out my pompoms! It's a lot of reading, but you're right on track with the challenge now!
The future books have adult scenes, but nothing remotely as violent or disturbing as the first book. No other parties involved from now on (at least through book four. I haven't gotten past that yet) If that was the only part you didn't care for in Outlander, I'm pretty sure you'll like the sequels.
Thanks Shannan. I think Heather and I are convinced to give the next book a try. I really did love everything else about the book.
