I'm still trying to figure this out for myself. My first self-published YA book has been available on Amazon for almost a week, and I've been franticallytrying to figure out how to promote it. I think the biggest pro about traditional publishing is having a whole team of people advertising on your behalf. This could be a con, however, if they don't put much effort into that advertising. In some ways, you're also working against the stigma (which is getting better, but it's still there) of self-publishing. I think that you have to be even better than your traditional counterparts to get noticed.
I'm excited about self-publishing, though. You're able to directly connect with your readers and build a strong community of followers, which I hope to do. :) And people like Amanda Hocking give me hope about self-publishing odds.
I'm at my first novel getting it published. I am working on self-publishing. The only company publishing I've found aren't that good. I get told that they want money first don't go with them... So still working on it... need to find a good publishing company or just self-publish with amazon.
