I know a lot of people are going to want to kill me over this, but for me the 1980 The Shining with Jack Nicholson was the worst. Yes he is a good actor but they totally, for me, missed the whole idea about Jack Torrance.

You are not alone there, I think just the same. I didn't also like the new Carrie adaptation. To be honest, I haven't read many Stephen King's novels, so I don't know for many others. I liked Mist for an example, story and movie, but the ending was too much for me.

I would almost agree with this - but I think that this goes in the 'so bad it's good' genre :)
I loved the book 'It' but that TV movie, while interesting, really didn't do it justice.
I haven't seen all that many, or I haven't read the book for all of them, so I can't make a fair comparison. From what I've heard, though, the T.V. miniseries of The Stand wasn't that great.
Sebastian wrote: I think the worst Stephen King book to movie adaptation is Maximum Overdrive." It was never a book, Stephen King wrote the screenplay as a movie only. I don't think it was that bad. It was the eighties and it was about par for the course at that time.I loved The Shining as a movie. True, it was absolutely nothing like the book, but so what? Stanley Kubrik did a masterful job and it's one of my favorite movies ever. The novel by Stephen King is also really good and when I read it I didn't even imagine Nicholson as Jack Torrance.
Stand By Me, based on The Body was a really good adaptation. So was The Shawshank Redemption; I liked the movie's end better than the book's.
Gosh, there are so many corny ones to choose from. I think Maximum Overdrive is a good choice but Dreamcatcher and The Mist are so bad. That being said though, I can't wait for the J.J. Abrams directed series of 11/22/63. I hope that one doesn't make this list!
