I second every one of Pat's recommendations! Those are some of the most important books in what I would consider the "Adult PNR/UF Canon"

The only one I would add is one of my current favorites:

Lords of the Underworld (Gena Showalter)

Ok, Maddy was a polite person and didn't suggest her own series. So I will. Sleeping With the Wolf is the first in her time travel series After the Crash. I enjoyed the whole series.

I'd also suggest that you read the Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs. They are a parallel series with her Mercy Thompson series, and some of the later Mercy books depend on some of what happens in the Alpha and Omega books.

I keep threatening to Read Maddy's series, It's been on my TBR forever.

I also agree with Ann & Rachel's suggestions.

Another series I've enjoyed is Marjorie Liu's Dirk & Steele. Tiger Eye is the first.

I like the Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series a lot (have read them all), but Chrisine Feehan's books just don't work for me (tried 3); love Charlaine Harris' "Dead" and "Grave" series, both.
