April 2014 Book Nominations
oh my - where do I begin?SO many come to mind. No one else has been here, so I will nominate two.
Neverwhere because I haven't read it yet and Holes because I love the story!

I got it from the charity shop a few months back but still haven't got to it - seems like the perfect time!
I have Affinity too and would happily read that one. It would be a great reason to get it off my real shelf. Although Trapeze is on my shelf too and looks great!
I never read a book by Sarah Waters, but I'm planning to. I have Fingersmith in my Mickey's Marchers, but I'm not yet allowed to read it :(

It's a bit long for the group read (thought about nominating it), but we could do a buddy read when you get to Mickey Mouse's Marchers. Maybe I'll be at MM by then too. Since I haven't planned MM yet, I could add it.
Suzanne wrote: "I nominate Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks."This is a good one too! I have it on my wishlist and was thinking of nominating it.
There are some really good books listed here! Having the theme as it is means a wide range of books from different genres can be nominated/read. It's interesting to see what comes up!

Sounds like a good idea! Let's see how it works out once we get there :)
I thought about nominating it too, but didn't feel like rearranging my whole challenge plan ;-)
Sarah wrote: "There are some really good books listed here! Having the theme as it is means a wide range of books from different genres can be nominated/read. It's interesting to see what comes up!"I agree! I'm feeling quite excited about it.
Peggy and Janice, if you do a buddy read of Fingersmith at some point in the future, I would be interested in joining you. I also have a copy lying around that I picked up at a used book store a couple of months ago.
Debra wrote: "Dominion, C.J. Sansom"Ooh, alternative history! This one looks good. I have another book by this author on my TBR shelf, Winter in Madrid.

I still need to get a copy from somewhere...
Yeah I couldn't decide on which one to nominate for this theme, and decided to let everyone else do it. So far this is working out awesomely. Affinity, Neverwhere, Dominion, Blindness, Birdsong, Americanah... Should be a good month whatever we pick!I'm now checking out all the other nomination I've never heard of. I can hear my shelves groaning in protest from 20km away.
I'm in for a Fingersmith buddy read too. It's on one of my chunkster piles.
Will set up a buddy read for Fingersmith, and we'll let Peggy be the driving force behind when we read it since she has it on Mickey's section.
It's in my Mickey's too, but I'm in my Mickey's now. I hope I can tag along with you guys somehow. I'm really looking forward to that one.
Janice wrote: "Will set up a buddy read for Fingersmith, and we'll let Peggy be the driving force behind when we read it since she has it on Mickey's section."Fingersmith is in my Roadrunner's Racers and I'm hoping to graduate to that section by the end of March.
So the timing will probably be right for me to join in the Buddy Read..which I want to do.☺
Debra wrote: "Boy, do we already have a ton of nominations. This is going to be a hard one to vote on!"Definitly! Some fantastic books!
How about mid or end of April for Fingersmith? Is that a date that would work for everyone?I don't want to hijack this thread, shall I set up a buddy read already so we can figure out what would be the best time to start there?

Janice set one up already - so it's ready and waiting for you!
Debra wrote: "Boy, do we already have a ton of nominations. This is going to be a hard one to vote on!"I imagine Amy will use the fruit machine to whittle our choices down to 10, like she has done in the past. Even with 10, there are some really great looking books that will make voting tough.
Just wanted to say that Sarah Waters (Affinity, Fingersmith) and C.J. Sansom (Winter in Madrid, Dominion) are one of the best contemporary authors, IMO.
I nominate GUILT by Shameyn Dones and Fear by Jeff Abbott or Alone by Lisa Gardner (I been having this one in my TR for a long time).
I just know about the theme for April now. I wonder if it still open for another nomination. I am fond of classic novels at the moment, so I'd like to read Emma by Jane Austen for April's book.
