KA will do that to you. Every now and then she writes something that's amazing, and then she realizes it was amazing and writes it again...and again......and again............and again.

ᴥ Irena ᴥ (-irena-) | 15 comments Keep in mind I haven't read the damn book (I did try, really). The thing is, I think I would hate Claire if I started the series. This review really made me laugh and Jill is going to kill me if she sees this.

Book: Salem Falls

This is a big review. Much wordier than I normally like but it's so thoughtfully presented that I like it.

message 20: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (bvicki) I was just reading this review.

message 21: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 52 comments It makes me want to read the book...except for this...

“Did he finally become the monster they made him out to be?”

Do you think that's a spoiler?

message 22: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (bvicki) I don't think it's a spoiler. Have you ever read JP before?

message 23: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 52 comments Vicki wrote: "I don't think it's a spoiler. Have you ever read JP before?"

I never actually get past the synopsis with JP. There is always something that makes me hesitate.

message 24: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (bvicki) I've read a few and they're draining. I liked them, in fact, one was a 5 star for me but I can't read them anymore.

I can see how some people would her review, but it's too long and too detailed. Imo, it's too spoiler-y. Her second paragraph intrigued me. Then, she continued to detail plot points. TMI!

That is a good review. Thanks, Stacia.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) | 11 comments Good one, Stacia!

At first, I thought "Uh, oh! Here's a long one!" But the way Anthony listed the pros made it pleasant 'bite-sized' chunks.

He also makes a good point about DG writing a 'screenplay.' Widescreen is the only way to watch a movie. This does not translate well in writing. I want the the 'full screen' version in the Outlander books! The panoramic scenes and 'long track shots' need to wind up on the editing floor.

I wish she didn't delete her account because Ceridwyn wrote one of the best longer reviews I've ever read. It was about a Sheryll Woods book which was left in their home after a group of guests left. It was basically just her trying to figure out who left the book while she described the book. Quite cleverly done.

This is me personally but I think 250 words is a pretty good length for a review. It gives you the capacity to describe the book and talk about your impressions. Some folks can do the longer more in-depth reviews and get away with it, but I certainly can't.

Yes, 200-250 words is adequate. With longer reviews it depends on what the reviewer is talking about. Critiquing the author's writing is done well by some. Other people rely on detailing characters and conflicts, which spoils the book. Then, there are those who wax poetic about the saturation level of their panties or the heroes' sexual prowess, exploding ovaries and all!

hmmm...I struggle with KA, but I think the cover for this book is amazing.

message 35: by Ash Wednesday (new)

Ash Wednesday (ashwednesdaylee) | 6 comments I really liked her (KA) before but decided to stop reading her new releases. Its getting silly the degree of repetitiveness (KA actually knows and lives by her redundancy not fixing what ain't broken and all that o.O)

message 36: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (bvicki) I'm reading my second KA right now and boy it's just long. I've been reading for days and still not half way. I think this one will be the end for me of her books.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) | 11 comments Here's a gem of a review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

It's a 2 star, yet incredibly objective and honest. He makes glowing statements and humbly explains his biases when discussing the unfavorable aspects of the book.

message 38: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (bvicki) That's a really long, detailed review...but a good one.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) | 11 comments Yeah, it is long. Normally, my eyes will start to cross by the 4th paragraph, but he was selling the book. It sounded like a good book I'd want to read. Yet I understood why he gave it 2 stars. He wasn't mean or snarky. Usually, long 2 star review involve serious trashing and obnoxious gifs, but not this reviewer.

message 40: by Ian (last edited Aug 18, 2015 01:21AM) (new)

Ian (setaian) | 52 comments I can see exactly what you're saying. Just one thing and it's something that I personally don't like and isn't a reflection on the quality of the review.

"Despite being beautifully composed and crafted, “All the Windwracked Stars” failed to connect with me."

That.

The book failed.

I wish reviewers would just own it and say "I didn't like it".

...

It actually makes me think of COs saying stuff like "We need to do such and such" which is code for "YOU need to do such and such".

message 41: by Anna (Bobs Her Hair) (last edited Aug 18, 2015 08:33AM) (new)

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) | 11 comments Or he could have said instead that he failed to connect with the book. Maybe?

Once my hubs said "We" needed to work out. Hmmm. Lol
