Stella Hi! I just bought The Girl in the Spider's Web and am curious to know if anyone has read it yet/bought it? I loved the storyline in the first three so I am anxious to know how well this author continues with the story...

Spela

Linda I got it for my husband for his birthday (yesterday) and he said it starts slow just like the others. He's read the others several times and he's half way through this one. He quits reading a book when he doesn't like it so this bodes well. I plan to read it too. Hubby hasn't really said anything about plot, characters but then he usually doesn't

Just moved this thread to the individual book discussions folder Stella:)

The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz has already had some controversial reviews with people unsure about reading it because they struggled with the first three/anxious to read it because they loved the first three!

Personally I hated the first one - a DNF for me, so I won't be reading this one:)

I liked the first three but probably won't read this one since it is not the same author.

Yes that's another thing Phrynne - will it be better - or worse! I'm interested in watching the reviews and comments coming in though (on the book's page)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) It's apparently not a follow on, just has the characters, so could possibly be alright. I'll probably buy it for mum since the Girl books are some of her favourites (got her into Scandywegian crime), and read it sometime in the future.

Neko I never realized this one was written by a different author until tonight. I read a review on Amazon and they said they did a very good job using the character(s). Plus it was a huge risk for this author to take on as it could make or break their career. In this person's opinion it seemed the author succeed.

I only read the first novel and didn't enjoy it much...However, having a new author simply makes me curious about this one.

Michelle (shelld79) | 144 comments I really loved reading this series but am in two minds about this book mainly because it's by a different author but the natural curiosity in me still wants to see how the story and characters are developed.

Stella I agree Michelle. I read that this was supposed to continue on but I think that he never actually got the notes from the girlfriend. If he's a good writer by himself, I think it would still be a good read. I guess we'll never know what Larsson actually had in mind for his series...

Tango | 290 comments I will give it a go. I'm a big fan of the books and love the characters. I hope it matches up.

I loved the books written by Stieg Larsson and am going to give this one a try this weekend.

Andrew Thelander I enjoy these books because Stockholm is one of my favourite cities and so I like the location! This book was written by David Lagercrantz against the wishes of Stieg Larsson's ex-partner and was bound to attract controversy. Lisbeth Salander has, by this stage, attained some kind of almost mythical status - even in the eyes of the main character, journalist, Mikael Blomkvist. I don't think that helps as it makes her less vulnerable. Will certainly make a good movie!

Neko This book doesn't belong with the other 3..Almost feels like a piggy back on the other 3.

Not the same author so I guess that's why. Trying to use the original author to make his book sell I guess...

Kinda feels like that is the case...Seems you either like or dislike and no real midways...I'm in the dislike. Don't mind other authors using other ppls characters AS long as they do a good job with keeping it in the same style.

I didn't like the original books anyway - DNF the first - didn't read any of the others :) So I'm not going to read this one... and I think you're right in the half and half people!

Don't blame you on the DNF..TBH, I only enjoyed the second one..Something about it just clicked...The first and third novels were very close to non finishers for me but I kept on reading. When I was lent a copy of this I thought well 'it's free so I might as well give it a chance' as it could of been something amazing but sadly I was pretty disappointed. I just hope he doesn't intend to write another book or if he does I won't bother.

That's good Ace - have you read the first three by the original author?

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments I almost gave up reading the first book until the girl with the tattoo was introduced, then after that I was hooked and read and enjoyed them, but don't intend to pick up a different author taking up the story.

Probably a wise move...She doesn't feature as much in this book as the others....But still..Did you only become hooked due to her?

Yes Brenda, I picked up book 1 out of curiosity at the library, then I don't think I slept until I finished all three. There was some mild panic I recall that book 2 would not be available at the library when I arrived the next day :)

Laura, I think it's because I work with computers so I do understand the mumbo jumbo and I believe it to be true. I took a liking to Lisbeth and her ability to fight the fight against those meanies that like to prey on weaker people or women and children in particular. I also knew that Mikael would report the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (barring any details that need to be eliminated in protecting Lisbeth of course).

My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

You didn't like it Laura?

Cool..Just read your review and liked it :) I'm pretty much up there with computer mumbo jumbo too but it's not what I didn't like about the book.
My reivew is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I forgot to add..I do like Lisbeth too..I think I didn't enjoy the new writers style tbh.
