Wendy | 7 comments Girl on the Train by Paul Hawkins. The following are some questions for you to consider before the meeting:

1. People watching is a common past time for many people. In this regard, Rachel is not alone. Do you think Rachel is so very different in her curiousity then the rest of us? What makes Rachel different?

2. If you had seen the pile of clothes from the train window do you think you might have reacted differently than how Rachel did?

3. Both Megan and Rachel kept secrets from their husbands. Do you think their marriages were different than the norm? How much is too much to hide from your partner? Is it ever ok to lie to your partner?

4. Rachel lies to herself as a way of moving on with her life. Do most people at some point in their lives lie to themselves for a way of coping? How does Rachel’s lies ultimately affect herself and other people in her life?

5. How much do you think Rachel can trust her own memories? Can her memories be in fact a lie?

6. A common theme in the story is Rachel’s inability to have a child. Do you think the author is trying to pass on a message of what exactly defines a woman, whether she be a mother, married, single or other?

7. In the story who do you think is trustworthy? Is Rachel trustworthy? Why/why not?

8. What surprised you the most in this book?

9. Did you like the style of the book, ie different chapters by different people and different times. Did you find it easy/hard to read?

10. Would you recommend this book to others?
