This is quite a cliffhanger! I have a love / hate relationship with books that do that to you within one book again and again ;) It's what makes multiple POVs so interesting, but also makes it so hard to put the book down... (I know that's intentional! Just makes it hard to go to bed or such mundane things :P)This really made me get a better look at their personalities.
Oh what an end to that chapter. I thought it was to be a simple ambush, but no. And a Giant already :-D W000T!

There is a rather nice scene wherein Nathair calls Veradis to him and the two talk of growing up and Nathair talks of his plans for the future.
Nathair asks if Veradis saw a group of riders leave Jerolin before they did. He did, Veradis asked if it had anything to do with the arrival of this Meical (who turns out to be Aquilus's councillor).
We learn then that Aquilus is high king of Tenebral and has summoned the kings of the neighbouring kingdoms. Veradis is unsure if the other kings will heed the call but Nathair is of the opinion that they will.
Eventually the warband arrives near the proposed meeting place. They creep up a steep hill, on the other side and below is a single man, cooking over a fire. The warband waits in the heat for something to happen when, after a time the man calls them out of hiding, surprising both Veradis and Nathair.
Nathair decideds to go down and meet this man, he takes Veradis and two more men with him.
At first Nathair takes this man to be Lykos himself. The man corrects his error and explains that he is Lykos' councillor. He also explains that the meeting between Lykos and the traitor baron was all fabricated in order to lure Nathair to him. The councillor explains that Lykos wishes for an understanding to exist between Tenebral and the Vin Thalun.
The councillor asks for someone called, Alcyon to join them. He turns out to be a giant. As Nathair's guard notice the giant they attempt to rush to his side but the councillor mutters something and the cook fire rises up and separates the two parties.
The chapter ends with Veradis running toward the flames...
