Chapter seven introduces a new POV called Cywen. From earlier chapters we no she is Corban's sister.

The chapter opens with Cywen bartering with a horse trader. She is feeling proud that Gar trusts her enough to carry this out in his absence (she works for him in the stables) Earlier on Cywen tells us that she managed to threaten a confession out of Dath so is aware of Corban, as an overprotective older sibling she has her mind set on revenge. Gar has left to find Corban but Cywen thinks he has been gone much too long and begins to worry.

Cywen proves very savvy at bartering as she manages to get her price for the horse, explaining that it is lame (though she knows why and that is an easy fix.) The trader leaves (not entirely satisfied I would imagine.) Throughout this transaction she has been observed by another girl: Edana, Princess of Ardan.

Edana is impressed with how Cywen conducted her business and after some niceties Cywen shows her the cause of the horses lameness and (with a knife) fixes the problem in front of the Princess. The conversation carries on but Cywen notices something out of the corner of her eye . . . Rafe.

She asks Edana to watch the horse and bolts for her brother's attacker. She tackles him from behind and rains hell down on him. She is pulled off by Vonn and Crain. A conversation between the group takes place (mainly consisting of Rafe trying to recover his pride in front of the gathered crowd.) Cywen is still being restrained and it seems that Rafe is set on teaching the restrained girl a lesson. It is all building into a climax when Edana steps in and defuses the situation.

As the girls leave the scene Edana notices some approaching riders, they turn out to be Gar and Corban. Cywen is overjoyed to see the both of them. She consoles her brother, he is taking it as well as can be expected right up until Dath comes along and boasts of how everyone is talking about Cywen's attack of Rafe.

Corban does not take this well, ashamed at his sister's attempt at revenge. Cywen doesn't understand why she is being punished. Corban puts a little distance between him and the group. Cywen tries to catch him up but Gar stops her, he then goes on to explain that whether she acted with good intentions or not in Corban's eyes he has been made a coward twice in one day. Gar tells Cywen to give him time.

The chapter closes with two riders coming into Dun Carreg. They stop to confirm where they are and inform Gar that they need to speak with King Brenin.
