This is a forum for any "buddy reads" "Alternative reads" or "Side reads" that you guys want to have for the group! If you are interested in starting a buddy read just post a new topic on the book of interest. The good news is that it can be ANY book you want! (In other words, it doesn't have to be any sort of classic). So if you are interested in starting a buddy read thread, go for it!

THis is a great idea. Does anyone want to read" When the NIghtbird Sings" with me? Robert Mc Cammon was known in the 90's but this series ,so far interesting to me.
Hi everyone, I'm Tara, and I'm a new moderator for the group. I noticed that the buddy read section hasn't had much activity of late, which is a shame, as buddy reads can be a ton of fun and they often push you to read something you wouldn't ordinarily read.
So I just wanted to see if anyone is interested in doing a buddy read...I've been wanting to read Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell if anyone else would like to read that one. However, I'm open to trying damn near anything as long as it's classic, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them!

I'm not really sure how a buddy read works though. Also, I won't be able to start this until June.

Hi Valerie! Basically how the buddy read works is that there will be a thread set up in the discussion forum for the book we decide on, and anyone who is interested can post their thoughts after they've read the book.
June sounds fine to me! There are definitely some "O" classics I wouldn't mind reading. Which of the following sounds best to you: Othello by Shakespeare, The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway, The Odyssey by Homer, or One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn?
Or does anyone else have an "O" book they'd like to nominate?

Oh, sorry, haven't had my morning coffee yet. I just reread your post and am feeling a bit sheepish.
Ok then, Down and Out in Paris and London! How does mid-June sound to you?

If you want to start mid June, I would buddy read Down and Out in Paris and London. I read a sample today, very depressing but should be a good read on poverty.

Wow, in my 'real life' there aren't that many Valeries! Funny! We can use each other as our alter egos...
Hi Cindy! And welcome to the group, other Valerie! Yes, mid-June looks like a good time to read it. I will set up a separate discussion thread for it at that time.
Looking forward to reading it with everyone :)

Let's hope we don't get a third! We'd have to resort to "Valerie 1," "Valerie 2," and "Valerie 3" labels, or something of that sort lol.

Just checking in - do we think we will start on the 15th (or so)? I will be starting 'Never Let me Go' today, and i don't expect it to take long to read.
The 15th sounds good to me too! However, I would also be ok with starting earlier, perhaps on Sunday the 12th.
If everyone agrees, I'll start an official thread for the book on June 12th, and from then on we can discuss it there.
