Do you think there are any good public reading spaces in DFW? When I go to New York, one of my favorite things to do is to spend a few hours in Central Park or Washington Square Park (or a dozen other places) reading, people watching, just hanging out. Now that the weather is changing (slowly), where can one do this in the DFW area...probably somewhere that isn't designed for families only?

Hello. Though this post is older, the topic was addressed recently in The Dallas Morning News, so the topic is certainly fresh and relevant. Part of building a literary city is having the events including The Dallas Book Festival this weekend. (For those who missed the article: http://interactives.dallasnews.com/20...) If anyone is attending the festival tomorrow, I would love to read about feedback. As for finding the perfect place to read and relax ... the deep downtown Dallas area is certainly lacking greenbelt space. That said, you can't go wrong with the Arts District, in my opinion. Have you been out to Klyde Warren? http://www.klydewarrenpark.org/About-...
Hanging around outside anywhere in Dallas is problematic except for those limited days in Spring and Fall when the climate allows. The Dallas Arboretum has some terrific places to hang out and read, or just smell the flowers. NorthPark mall isn't bad for an indoor venue--I'd recommend the fountain area if you're not prone to running water triggering your bladder. I'm also going to throw in a vote for Cottonwood Park, in Richardson, just because of the water feature and the ducks.
