100 Books Challenge discussion

Post comments here about Scarlet Feather by Maeve Binchy. Spoilers are possible.

I've started the book and am enjoying it so far.

I just picked it up at the library today, but have to finish a challenge book before I start SF.

Sorry I have been absent ... haven't been reading this one for a few days as I had a couple of books that I had to finish before the end of the month. But I will get back to it this week. I have to say that I love the 2 children who are not orphans, but the next thing to them. Such funny situations. Can't wait to see what they get up to next.

I have had to travel to Texas to attend to some family business, and haven't even started this one yet. And I was the one who nominated it. I feel terribly remiss.

Please don't. I've been so swamped with other books that I haven't read much. I'm trying to finish S. In the next day or 2 and hope to get back to it by week's end.

Just finished January. what a great confrontation between 2 characters. I won't say more to avoid spoilers but I loved it. Still adore Simon & Maud. they are hilarious.

I made the executive decision to add a month to this group read. I'm only 18% done so far and this is a super busy week for me with annual reports, Special Olympics stuff due for track & field and camping trip this weekend with family. No idea how much reading time I will have. Hope this is ok with everyone.

And I do hope some more of you will join us. I think I'm going to end up really liking this one and I'm not what you would call a Maeve Binchy fan.

I have just gotten to the end of Chapter 1, and I am starting to really get interested in these characters and their relationships. Totally agree, Martha, about that confrontation!

It's a longer book, so an extra month for discussion is A-OK by me! Good executive decision, Martha.

I'm up to August and really enjoying this multi-faceted story. I could strangle Walter myself! Love Maud & Simon. Can't stand Marcella.

Scarlet Feather by Maeve Binchy – 3.5***
Binchy excels at writing ensemble pieces that show ordinary people in some extraordinary circumstances. This novel covers a year in the lives of Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather and their new catering business, Scarlet Feather. They make mistakes, have emotional melt downs, overcome obstacles, find reserves of love and compassion, smile through adversity, and never stop working to achieve their dream. Each chapter covers a month in the year, but is divided into short vignettes jumping from character to character and scene to scene. The result is that the reader gets a more complete picture than any of the characters does.

Walter is despicable!

I finished this and enjoyed it very much. I did like the style of this book with so many characters interacting in various ways. I give it 4 stars.

I was so frustrated with how Tom and Marcella interacted (or didn't). Anybody else feel the same way?

Yes. Seemed they were both clueless at how to make a relationship work. Very wrong for each other.
