Did anyone have trouble reading this book as a parent? While I would do ANYTHING possible for my son, I was at times horrified at the parent's actions.

I agree it's horrifying to think a parent would "use" a child in this way. On the other hand, it also speaks to the intense love a parent has for a child and the lengths we go through to protect/save our children. It's any interesting irony...loving one child so much that you sacrifice another.
Actually I tried to read it several years ago but found parts too disturbing. I am starting it again in hope that I can read it.
Reading it through the eyes of a parent definitely changes my feelings on this book, but reading it looking at the love of two sisters, to me, was even more powerful.
I would agree with you, Michelle. The love the sisters had for each other was beautiful. But to be born to be your sister's donor and have it expected of you by your parents was something else. You wonder where it would have ended.I felt sorry for the brother and how lost he was in the family - crying out to be noticed and loved.
