Twelve thousand years ago, they came. They descended from the sky amid smoke and fire, and created humanity and gave us rules to live by. They needed gold and they built our earliest civilizations to mine it for them. When they had what they needed, they left. But before they left, they told us someday they would come back, and when they did, a game would be played. A game that would determine our future.

This is Endgame.

For ten thousand years the lines have existed in secret. The 12 original lines of humanity. Each had to have a Player prepared at all times. They have trained generation after generation after generation. In weapons, languages, history, tactics, disguise assassination. Together the players are everything: strong, kind, ruthless, loyal, smart, stupid, ugly, lustful, mean, fickle, beautiful, calculating, lazy, exuberant, weak. They are good and evil. Like you. Like all.

This is Endgame.

When the game starts, the players will have to find three keys. The keys are somewhere on earth. The only rule of their Endgame is that there are no rules. Whoever finds the keys first wins the game. Endgame: The Calling is about the hunt for the first key. And just as it tells the story of the hunt for a hidden key, written into the book is a puzzle. It invites readers to play their own Endgame and to try to solve the puzzle. Whoever does will open a case filled with gold. Alongside the puzzle will be a revolutionary mobile game built by Google’s Niantic Labs that will allow you to play a real-world version of Endgame where you can join one of the lines and do battle with people around you.

Will exuberance beat strength? Stupidity top kindness? Laziness thwart beauty? Will the winner be good or evil? There is only one way to find out.

Play.
Survive.
Solve.
People of Earth.
Endgame has begun.

I read this a while back. But really - It's jsut a complete rip off of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I'm lucky I borrowed the book from a friend rather than bought it.

I seem to have signed myself for waaay too many buddy reads this month so I am hoping to start this after I finish my current two series BRs.

Yeah I'm not sure if I can read this one xD I'll see how I go before the end of this month. I should be able to get it done.

1/4 of The Calling: (view spoiler)[This book is insaneeeee!!! There are so many elements to it. I have no idea of the direction this is going or what any of the riddles could be leading to but I am so excited to find out. (hide spoiler)]

3/4 of The Calling: (view spoiler)[Is it wrong that I want all the players to get it on!?

I love the diversity of both the characters and their backgrounds. So many cultures and race are represented and I love how not all are trained, ruthless assassins. Sarah is the character set up for the reader to root for as she is the all-American girl next door who actually seems to be acting for the good of the world whereas others, like Baitshakan and Kala, I'm not so sure of. 4/4 of The Calling: (view spoiler)[ This had such a tense ending and I did not imagine Christopher dying! I actually found a love triangle I liked and imagined it would continue on in the next installments in the series.

I still have no real clue of what is going on but I'm loving it anyway. I want to go back over this book to reread and hopefully understand some of the clues. (hide spoiler)]

I read it about a year back, and then started re-reading so I could read the rest of the series, but never got around to finishing it. So I'll be starting from there.

Won't be starting this on the 1st. It'll definitely be a few days after.

I had to re-borrow this one. I didn't have a chance to get to it in January but I will in February.

1/4 of Sky Key: (view spoiler)[Without having to set up the histories of all twelve characters this has initially begun at a much faster pace and is therefore making for more compelling reading.

Poor Sarah. Not only has she lost Christopher, but not Feo as well. I don't buy it. Unless she sees a body, I imagine he will return at some point.

2/4 of Sky Key: (view spoiler)[I don't remember feeling so tense whilst reading the first book! I keep having to take breaks every 20 pages or so to allow my heart rate to return to normal. Without being in the horror genre, this is managing to terrify me. The end of the majority of the human race is a scary thought, without the possibility of it being played out in this book.

As usual, I have zero ideas of what the riddles, numbers and images are referring to! (hide spoiler)]

I have both books and two novella bind ups so thought I'd continue to plough through them :) I'm enjoying the second one even more than the first, so far.

I have audio books for both, and listen at 1.5 speed so it goes by pretty fast since i have about an hour drive round trip to work every day :) Plus you read the Warriors books faster than me!

Yes, it keeps me motivated to continue reading rather than worry over the length of the book!

Yeah exactly, short chapters are so motivating! That's why I like Maximum Ride, and James Patterson books so much lol.

Woah listening on 1.5 speed would kill me! I can't even listen to an audiobook normally haha. I lose focus and can't concentrate on it.
And the Warriors was just because you were so busy that time haha. Btw I'll be so late on starting the 4th one.

I listen to my Kindle with the text-to-speech function at the fastest setting. I find the robotic voice so soothing but everyone around me finds it super annoying! Haha.
