Katryna I really want to read a good paranormal story, however I'm trying to stay away from the post-Twilight trilogies and mini-series that are popping up everywhere.

Does anyone have any good paranormal recommendations for me? Classics are preferred, but I'm open to suggestions as long as they're worth it.

Thanks, Goodreaders!

Feliks Well that rec you just got is certainly not classic. It may be fine, but...the reason why classics are so valuable is that they hold the ideas that everyone came along later and copied, (couldn't help but copy) because horror writing became 'an industry' and original ideas are hard as gold to uncover.

Try these.
The House Next Door
All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By
The Magic Toyshop
The Great God Pan
The King in Yellow and Other Horror Stories
Harvest Home
The Girl in a Swing
Sister Wolf
The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton
A Rendezvous in Averoigne
The Ghost Pirates
The Night Land
Complete Ghost Stories
Ghost Stories
The Haunted Looking Glass
The Doll Who Ate His Mother
The Rats

You'll be delighted to read "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir."

The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward is very good, but you need to read this series in order otherwise you won't understand what's going on. Norma Dean

If you like classics:
H.P. Lovecraft
Edgar Allen Poe
Mary Shelly

Also check out
The Exorcist
Rosemary's Baby
Murgunstrumm (a short story-the first vampire tale with an american setting)
I am Legend (not anything to do with the movie-the original story is brilliant)

Hope that helps..it's a lot of reading but worth it.

Cathy I really liked "The Historian". It is a well-written part of the vampire lore and stands out as a great example of the genre. It's not just a re-telling of the same old thing.

Sandrine Genier Katryna wrote: "I really want to read a good paranormal story, however I'm trying to stay away from the post-Twilight trilogies and mini-series that are popping up everywhere.

The Turn of the Screw by Henry James is a classic. And don't give up on paranormal themed vampire stuff just yet. The Vampire by Sandrine Genier is not your ordinary vampire book and far from twi.

Kim I really enjoyed Fear the Light by William Massa. It's a stand-alone paranormal murder mystery story.
