Donnajo | 4378 comments UPDATED: 4/5/20 (When I tried link other day it wasn't working so I added the new one below)

Well sounds like the hurricane might be not hitting but we still have some big waves. Getting to see my beach when I'm not there it helps to see the surf cams.
This is on the house that I went to the estate/garage sale last weekend and seeing selling and the new people don't want it on the house and the people she thought would take it now came back they don't want to put a hole in their siding so she's trying to find a new home for it near the inlet and surf beach. hopefully she find one.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Looking those waves coming in the inlet. looks like you can still see the walkway. yesterday the different news crews were there they said they lost around 50 feet of the beach. just what we need ugh. On labor day weekend you almost needed a ladder to get to the water on our part of the beach which is north from where this came is they lost so much then. we heard they did remove beaches and showers and even pushed up sand for dunes. it's one of the beaches that still hasn't put new ones back permanent since the hurricane which isn't good. I won't go into all that.

Funny story last spring I guess my bil had me go down by the surf came along the walkway there usually is a bench there we were on the cell phone and he had me sit on the beach so he could see how much a delay it was until he saw me on the cam. I even had to jump up and down and wave my arms. lucky no one was walking along the walkway well one couple was and I told them the reason I was acting that way. LOL. hey it did the job.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17057 comments I went to look and forgot it would be dark, still some daylight here, though not for long. The sun set was six minutes ago. I hope those in the bad flood areas are ok in SC.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Some guy this afternoon got in trouble on a jet ski by the jetty. Lucky the Atlantic city coast guard was in the area there is also one of their sites across the inlet. And saw the jet ski without the guy. They had to send down a rescue swimmer to save him and fly him to the beach for the emergency people to take. Saw the videos on the one FB site so shared them to my Facebook. So stupid of the guy. He is lucky.

Donnajo | 4378 comments I'm at the he shore this weekend. If you watch it he surf cam today there is a surf thing going on. The waves aren't too good I don't think. What a chance from last weekend. Look at those "mountains". They are higher up on our beach to the north I climbed 1/2 way up it to look how the beach was on the other side. I'm solo right now my sister and bil bought down the kids after Robbie's hockey gam yesterday because he has a away. Game down nearby here today my niece will meet them there and take them home afterwards and my sister and bil will come back here. They should be back soon the game was 1145. I was hot sitting on deck to came in to cool down will maybe go to the beach for awhile when my sister gets back if we go to the north where we sometimes go to sit there isn't a mountain to climb. Don't know why that is maybe they ran out of time or they bought the sand from someplace else.

BurgendyA | 62 comments The weather in my location is regular for an autumn. Cool breezy air.

message 8: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments Another start to a great weekend. Walked along the walkway this morning. Had a great scallop sandwich platter out for lunch, came back and sat on the deck and read until we took another walk before it got dark tonight both walks we sat at the inlet for awhile. Hopefully tomorrow will be another nice day and Sunday we have the making strides breast cancer walk. My bil went up north so it is only my sister and me until Sunday.
Carol, Robbie has a hockey tournament up by you next weekend my sister and bil are taking him up from Thursday until Sunday. Don't know what town it is in. It is outside Boston and a good size arena. Don't how much time they will have first game is Friday morning around 7 something.

DJ, I saw in another post that it's in Marlborough, which is about an hour west of Boston.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Yes, the rink is marlborough but the courtyard whatever they are staying at is almost 1/2 hour away. that is where they it was discounted and they were having people stay. I have it online someplace because I was doing the search from the hotel to the rink. I can't believe how these people plan these things. there are 2 games on friday one 7:20 and one later on then a game on saturday and the one on sunday is 6 something in the morning if they go into the playoffs. and the teams they play are 2 from NJ which they haven't played yet and one from westchester. and they are going up on thursday not sure if robbie is getting out of school early or when he gets home which means they will get up there when it's dark. my bil said they have something planned at some point but you had to pay ahead. so don't know how much sightseeing they will be doing. I told them boston was one of my favorite places when I went on the navy reunions back with my parents.
Just checked the courtyard marriott is in milford which going by the website is around 25 minutes away from the rink. you would think they would be at the closer one in the same town but it's a alot of kids so maybe the people doing the plans had other teams staying at the closer ones. they were told it's maybe 4 hours from NJ but I seem to remember being in the car longer than that but it was a long time ago. the days they have the 7:20 am game and the one on sunday that is earlier at 6 something (I'm sure they did the earlier on sunday because people would be leaving to go home that day) maybe they won't make the championship rounds but we can only hope. their team is considered the home one for the 3 games. they tied one this past weekend and lost the other which the other team got so far ahead they stopped it. but the coach told robbie he's one of the best players so at least he was happy about that. they have 9 and 10 year olds on the team and he's a 9 year old.

message 12: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments They can't leave until Robbie gets home from school and he couldn't get out earlier because of a project he has to do. They went to AAA earlier in the week. I'm sure they will be in the rush hour traffic.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Robbie got the first goal at the first game. Game ended up tied 2-2
Second game they lost. My sister said those kids were out for blood. Next game late tomorrow afternoon. It seems no time for seeing Boston. Today they had planned paint ball for the kids. Tomorrow the coaches are taking the kids out for lunch. My sister asked if they can skip that but bil said it is what Robbie wants in this trip. He went swimming today. She said they heard someone else saying the kids are out of the championship round already since they had would have had to win two games already. Of course Robbie heard that and asked if they could leave after tomorrow's game but they said no because it will be too late.

Donnajo | 4378 comments For those wanting to check the surf check it was moved to a new location and we located it on the outside of one of the beach houses. It was up for awhile now it seems the cam is not working again. My sister and one of her neighbors at the shore both noticed it I just checked the link I have here and it is the same. If I locate another link that is working I'll post it but my guess it might have to do with new house construction that I think is next door to the house the cam is on. Hopefully it is back working soon. It is a good way to check the beach out.

message 16: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments Surf cam back up on a different house until or camera is repaired. Pontoon boat was in the ocean earlier a lot of people taken out of water. My sister called me to find out what was happening they just got back down there. I found out what happen from another site. They even had from NYPD helping. You can still see some boats in ocean. Stupid why take that type of boat into the ocean. Hopefully everyone is okay.

message 17: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments Two of the people did not make it. The fisherman that we know said they have been seeing him going out almost everyday. So sad. Final count was 7 people. At one point my sister called and said the helicopters and other emergency were in the parking lot by us and would not let anyone go into the area. Someone said it was a family. They were going to leave the boat out in the ocean but already pulled it in. Stupid never should have gone out especially with the warning that were out. It was on the way back into the inlet when a wave hit it and turned it over.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Hope everyone is okay from this blizzard. I can't believe I just put on CBS news a few minutes ago to see if they had anything different and walked away to the bathroom the phone rings it's my brother in law and he tells me CBS just had the shore house on tv. you could see it in the background. I can't believe the one time I walk away and I miss seeing it. I'm just going to check outside to see it they shoveled enough on the sidewalks and the driveway. then I'm going to read the rest of the day. last night I just couldn't get into reading so didn't read many pages. But today I need to buckle down and get reading those arcs they are piling up.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9539 comments DJ, I thought of you and the shore house as I watched reports of all the Cape Cod shoreline concerns over the weekend.

message 21: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments CBS news was right next to the house and they took a picture you could see the driveway and the corner of the house. The neighbor said the piles of snow on the curb saves the water from going over. so we got lucky.

message 22: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments It looks like the wind of the other day knocked out the surf cam again. Hopefully it will be up soon again. i want to see how the beach looks.

message 23: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments My sister she heard from my nephew who was down in florida with them for a few days and went back home today he said it's snowing by him already and my sister checked the surf cam and said it's snowing already at the shore I just came on to double check it does look wet to me she said it's snow. My sister wants me to email if I notice it's snowing here. I heard a noise around 3 this afternoon and it was the landscaping guys going around with the seeder thing they go walk around with but they are putting down salt. I guess they have it and are using it just in case. hopefully the angle is further to the coast and misses us. When I went out at 930 this morning the temp was reading 45 degrees. where it the 70's and 80's we had a week ago. This is the first day of spring it's not supposed to do stuff like this. The snow pile at the end of the street finally is gone with the last rain we saw. so I don't want to see more snow piling up. the hot days didn't bring it down at all it was in the shade.

message 24: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17057 comments Flurries here in Tennessee today too and a hard freeze predicted tonight. I was not planning on wearing the winter coat again this season. Looks like I will have to. Brrr. Come on spring.

message 25: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments My boots and heavy coat are away as it is I had to wear my black pea coat this morning. The last two days when I wore my light weight black fleece I was cold. I don't want to take the chance up eating up with a cold for the wedding next weekend.
Spring is not giving us a nice welcome today. Sorry for your flurries. Not nice that even Tennessee is getting flurries.
I just saw on the news that today was Rita's day for giving free Italian ice or whatever they give and the weather guy said it snowed last year on the first day of spring too. Well we don't want to hear that. Me I came home this morning and put on my heavy sweats a fleece lightweight jacket and under a comfy throw. And I'm still cold even with the heat on. I'm so not going to lower it.

message 27: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9539 comments Welcome to spring indeed. I woke up to 4-5 inches in my driveway. Luckily it wasn't too hard to shovel. Half of it was gone by the time I got home, with the strong sun out in the afternoon. I think we are expecting some more precipitation on Thursday.

BarryP (barrypz) | 3513 comments I awoke at 4 to blow snow, but there was not enough, so I went back to sleep till 5. At 0530 I was outside clearing the snow from my wife's Subaru, but saw that the roads were clear, so swapped keys and took my little Honda to work.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Don't forget to check the surf cam to see the surf and what the ocean is doing with this new hurricane/tropical storm. Rip currents which had started last week. They did a state of emergency already from yesterday. There was all big signs when I came home yesterday along the parkway saying Severe storm be prepared (I've never seen signs like that before) what that they said yesterday they were closing all the beaches today. but some people don't listen. People go after the guards are off duty and that is when problems happen. I also notice the small thing they use on the beach they have going is zipping back and forth but now they are using the truck which they never had in the past on the beach. It also doesn't help that they are short this time of year with lifeguards because of who goes back to school. I'm not sure what time high tide is but the water looks to be coming up already but that could be because of the how the ocean is.
The new surf cam location I think is a better one than the last one. Hope this one continues working.

Carol,

that is one for someplace in NC not for NJ. so it doesn't go right to my beach unless you go though all the states and cams listed. A lot of time if you don't do the link right to it. It gives you problems connecting. Especially with the new location (house) it's located at.

This is the one to the beach I go below. You never know when I'm walking that is the way I walk towards the inlet if I'm not doing the whole route you might see me pass by. Not this weekend but hopefully I'll be back down there and walking my two times a day. I wish someone would put up cam up a little further but they do it where it is because that is the surf beach and inlet.

Donnajo | 4378 comments Yeah, I just got a call from my sister her my brother i law and robbie are at the inlet and said the different tv stations are at the inlet televising but regular shows are (I checked) still on it's probably for the regular news tonight. The coast guard has the inlet closed off to boats since it's so dangerous. My sister said they are out of there tomorrow hopefully before the high tide at around 11. But tonight's high tide is still a problem. high tide is around 10-10:30 tonight so it will probably be on the news then from down there.
My sister said the parking lot by the supermarket in town is filled up.

Its sounds like it's not coming up the coast so we should be okay just getting some rain today but forecasts said should be stopping early tonight. But of course it could switch directions.

This is what I found on Google:

"Officials said the remaining 75 feet of the pier has been permanently closed. Besides the end “T” collapsing, the rest of the pier also has many broken pilings."

The pier is near Southport. There is a ferry that runs between Southport and Fort Fisher (Confederate fort from the Civil War). My brother and his family have a place near Fort Fisher in the town of Kure Beach. Kure Beach also has a pier and webcam. I checked out the webcam the next day. It was sunny and people were on the pier and beach. You couldn't tell a hurricane hit the day before.

BurgendyA | 62 comments Winter is still biting Jersey. A week ago there was a snow storm. Now no snow just freezing wind. Winter has never been my favorite season.

message 49: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments Yeah, I'm so ready for winter to be over and spring to be here. Yesterday I was able to pick up one of those thin Farmers' almanac books that a bank had and looked what the rest of the month and march was like. I used to love buying the Almanac when my mom was around but haven't done it except once or twice when I found one of these books. I like to compare to see how right they were. And after looking at it yesterday I almost wished I didn't. since it mentioned a few more days of snow. Hopefully if it happens it won't amount to much and disappear fast. Yesterday it was 47 and today it's supposed to be up in the 50's. Not sure how much of the icy snow that is outside that it will melt but I hope it does.
I like looking at the surf cam every once in awhile. You might not see snow down the shore but Northern NJ is like a different world. We had snow when south Jersey didn't they might have only had the rain part.

message 50: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4378 comments Those getting this bad blizzard weather please be careful and be safe. Stay inside. I just check the surf cam doesn't look good with the ocean. It might not have the snow yet down yet but the tides are flood ing are going to be bad. Up by me it started during the night and there is already a lot outside. And it's supposed to get icy if it's not already. Yesterday when I went out I saw they were already putting down the liquid salt in town. Some claim the last time that didn't help. Heard the bobcat and plows by me going earlier. Probably only doing the roads and nothing else yet.
