The Faithful and the Fallen discussion

This chapter opens with Cywen keen to know who has ridden into Dun Carreg.

'A white eagle on a shield. That's what you said, Ban, wasn't it.'

Gwenith tells the family that they will take their evening meal in he feast-hall that evening. Perhaps Brenin will tell more.

Thannon tells Corban he is needed in the forge again Corban is not thrilled as his shoulder was aching from the previous day's work. Cywen then tells him that Gar wanted to see him today, his father gives him permission so Ban and his sister head off to the stables.

Gar ends up being in the paddocks near the stables with the roan colt that Cywen had bought. Edana also arrives and asks if he can take Cywen on a ride. Gar agrees, this also leaves he and Ban to talk.

It turns out to be about Gar's earlier offer of training Corban. Corban thinks back to his encounter with Rafe and agrees.

We then skip to the meal in the feast-hall. After people have had their fill the King announces that he must depart to Tenebral for a kings council. The first since the exiles came back to the banished lands. Queen Alona will rule in his stead.

That night Corban struggles to sleep. His parents had been annoyingly silent about Brenin's announcement. He creeps out of bed and hears Gar's voice in the kitchen.

'It is coming then. We must be more vigilant than ever.'
