OF FUN!

apparently i've already read something for this challenge without realising it... Through the Woods, which was very creepy and unsettling. would definitely recommend.

i'm currently reading The Ghost Network and The Ocean at the End of the Lane, which i hadn't anticipated being so creepy but that's on me (i mean, this is neil gaiman we're talking about).

i'm participating in a readathon this month, so i'm hoping to go through something else for the challenge (ideally night film, but it's quite long for a 24 hour readathon so we'll see).

I've read Sleep Donation which was okay, it's a nice concept, but the execution left a lot to be desired.

I went crazy and downloaded a bunch of books, but so far I think what I really will end up reading is Night Film, because the cover is beautiful and I want to see what it's about.

I'm also going to be participating in the readathon, though I'm still not sure what I'll be reading for it, my bets are YA though, because I always tend to read that genre really fast. So, probably The Knife of Never Letting Go and the Black Widow book.

it might be too early to say, but i'm thinking night film is a bust

THE PROTAG SOUNDS LIKE MODERN DAY DON DRAPER (aka whiny baby ruins own life, thinks of self as american god/tragedy)

like, i'm not rooting for this dude, six chapters in and i already hate him

actually, scratch that, one chapter was enough to cement my opinion, so really

sally (smallbeast) Ugh that's so disappointing I was also going to read Night Film. I've had the book sitting on my kindle forever.

the book might still be an interesting experience, but honestly i don't know if this guy is going to get any better. The main plot is this reporter who disgraced his career coming after cult horror movie creator that has not been seen for years, except when mentioned in creepy manners by die hard fans. ANyway, his work inspired serial killers and some horrible shit. So, cult horror dude's daughter commits suicide and the reporter sees in that a way to prove he was right.

And that's not really the kind of chase that interests me.

Also, this should be taken into consideration, this book comes with big trigger warnings, there's open/kinda graphic discussion of violence against children and mental illnesses/suicide.

not entirely sure it counts but i can't remember the exact guideline for the month and i'm too lazy to check. i'll make it count on the basis that tomorrow's readathon day and i'll definitely read more books that better fit october. anyway. what the fuck am i even rambling about. just go read Illuminae. when it comes out. i had an arc but the book should come out this month? or around november anyway. it's amazing. a m a z i n g. no other words.

pretty meager readathon tbh. for this challenge i basically read only The Ocean at the End of the Lane because A Monster Calls, despite the title, is not scary at all. just heavy as fuck, babadook style. i'm reading Leviathan Wakes now and i seem to remember a friend talking about space zombies but who knows really.

Tori (sometorist) | 21 comments this is HELLA late, but at the beginning of the month i read Anya's Ghost, and really enjoyed it! i def don't think i'm the target audience - it felt more like a middle school read - BUT i think it was a good choice for me just bc my tolerance for ~horror is LOW AF and even then, there were a few panels that freaked me out just a bit. heh.

i also started reading Troll: A Love Story a few weeks ago and, bc of school, haven't really been making much progress. it's definitely interesting in its format, though? it intersperses two different POVs with excerpts from "blog posts" and "dictionary definitions" -- i haven't read a book that plays with form like this in a while. ditto for it being a translation of a work!
