What are your favorites in book 8? We should assume this entire discussion will contain spoilers for this book!

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments SPOILER...this is to explain my comment re: was Ross celibate for four years after Margaret?...When Demelza appeared in his bedroom needing "help" unfastening the hooks on the blue frock, he lights an extra candle...see Book Two Chapter Four, Page 210-214...and the candle is explained , as well as, so much of the enduring love between the two. Ross is for Ross, quite loquacious and sensitive. When reading these pages I always think of WG transferring the depth and emotion of his own marriage...

I know exactly which part you mean!
"...'I feel just the same about you as the first time you took me to bed in this room. D'you remember, I was wearing your mother's frock.'
'You seduced me.'
'It didn't feel like it by the time it was over. You lit an extra candle.'
'I meant to know you better by morning.'"

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments YES TANYA...exactly the part, I do so love their conversation when Ross returns and they are reflecting and catching up and of course wondering if their children know what they are doing...trivia question though...do you know when the interiors are filmed at Bottle Yard Studios, are real candles used? I have watched the DVDs very often and have realized that for the most part the flames do not move. With all of the movement on the set you would suppose that they might???HOWEVER the fire hazard.....

Oh, good question. I will check with my Poldarkness friends to see if anyone knows that sort of detail. I'm pretty sure any scene that is supposedly lit by candle has other light--otherwise we wouldn't see anything. And I noticed they blow out candles sometimes, so they must occasionally use real ones.

Goodness gracious, men are such visual creatures. I'm very encouraged to order SFTS already and perhaps read WH's memoirs. After all, he's really the SOURCE of our fascination, not Aidan Turner nor Robin Ellis nor even Ross Poldark, lovely conduits that they are. VERY lovely.

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments MARA I am so sorry, for some reason I thought you had read all of the books as you have such an affinity for the characters and the nuances. WG

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments WG's memoirs are very free form, unconventional and endearing. The updated Poldark's Cornwall is also lovely with additional text from AG.

Mara | 111 comments Oh, no need. I'm toward the end of Black Moon & my Four Swans is on the way. But because the books aren't readily available I begin re-reading the ones I have and I catch so much more on the 2nd reading. It's incredible that the publishing industry wasn't more prepared for the increased demand. What is the name of WG's memoir?

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments MARA I know exactly what you mean about the availability. Even three months ago I had to go to eBay to buy 6-12. Most came from overseas and because they were from different sources the books did not arrive in order! Made me crazy!! I even called local used book stores without any luck! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!

I'm very pleased that they are all available for Kindle from Amazon. I get instant delivery of the next book after I finish one!

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments GOOD TO KNOW TANYA...but don't you miss the feel of a book? being able to fold down a page corner, underline a passage? I have a Kindle but AT&T is holding it hostage, they want me to sign a contract for $180 for "customer service" to release my old password so I can install a new password...so it is just as well that I love books and they spill about everywhere...

VICTORIA--I don't use my actual Kindle anymore--I have the Kindle app (free) on my tablet and my phone. It's handled through Amazon and doesn't involve AT&T in any way. With the Kindle app, I can book mark a page and highlight passages as well as search for specific text. And I never have to worry about finishing a book at 30,000 feet and not be able to get a new one! (I travel a lot.) If you accept my friend request, maybe I can provide technical assistance if you need it for the Kindle app.

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments TANYA that would be nice if you can, if not, don't worry it is kind of you to offer. I would think with traveling so much it would be great, as you say you can instantly download and not have to wait for the next under stocked/overstocked airport shop...

Victoria Smiser | 121 comments TANYA this is marvelous! I will download it first thing in the morning. Now I understand how you can post whole pages on the site without typing for an hour. Fabulous!!
Thank you so much.
Victoria
PS the goodreads reply did not go through so I am posting!

Actually, I do type most of the passages I post. And I'm so anal I add in html tags so the formatting is nice. You can't copy and paste from the Kindle app on the computer, but I did notice that you CAN copy and paste from the phone app. Added Kindle bonus--you can adjust the font size of the text!
