Michelle Lewis | 19 comments Is it worth going to watch the film or should I just stick to reading the novel?

I love Matt Damon, so will have to see the film at some point. I may do this as part of the Film/Book challenge.

I have read the book, which was good but not brilliant. I think that it is one if those rare ones that will make a much better film

Seraphina | 100 comments Film is better than the book, for a change

Michelle Lewis | 19 comments Great! Sounds like a might out to look forward to.

Sandy | 458 comments I think reading the book helped me understand, or enjoy the movie more. I had the same problems with the book as I did the movie. Some of the dialogue seems corny.
My husband said it was too "sciencey"(he also has a degree in science). He only briefly fell asleep. Matt D. was believable in his role.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Just back from seeing this movie, top class stuff. 'bout time a sci-fi won an Oscar. Not read the book, seeing the movie does make me want to give it a go, but I sense I will end up being disappointed, so not too sure.

Shirley | 82 comments The book is much more detailed, so you may well find it fills in some gaps.

There is masses of detail in the book. Almost too much, but as a thriller it is superb!

Michelle Lewis | 19 comments Update: well, I haven't read the book yet. But we did have a great night out at the cinema. It is a fun film and is even suitable for families. I was literally on the edge of my seat for a couple of scenes. Thanks everyone for the info.

Annika I started the book, got about 40 pages in and couldn't take it any more. I hated the writing - the main character expressed himself like he was a teenager.
The film seems to be doing very well in the awards circuit though, so maybe it works better on film.
