I haven't yet finished this book so I'm not going to commit to a "favorite bit", but my favorite THING about this book is the surprises! The earlier books had dramatic surprises (not all good); the ones beginning in 1810 have mostly been of the variety "life continues." THIS one is keeping me guessing without playing too much with my emotions. I find myself completing a chapter and saying out loud "DUN DUN DUH!"
Book 1.Chapter 12.III
"Making money at gambling was like seeing ghosts: you never met someone who'd seen a ghost, only someone who knew someone who'd seen a ghost. You only met people who knew people who'd made at fortune..."

Also Ross' advice to Jeremy. There are no words. As a friend said "Viva Ross." Never change Ross, never change.

YES! That was one of my favorite "DUN DUN DUH!" moments! I didn't see that one coming at all.

Just finished reading The Loving Cup and agree it was a Schadenfreude moment at George's expense. I loved it. Then Valentine's literal expression, "I worship the ground you walk on," was icing on the cake. He and Selina deserve each other.
