My favorite children's Ghost story is Wait Till Helen Comes... I read it when I was in the 4th grade and still think it is a good book for children and adults

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I'd totally forgotten about it until now. I hope I still have it on my bookshelf at my parent's house...
I've really been into YA horror/supernatural books over the last few months. Obviously not as scary or nightmare-inducing as the adult books, but still pretty decent chills. I will admit, though, I had a hard time turning off the lights after reading The Girl from the Well. I highly recommend it. I just picked up the sequel from the library and hoping it's just as frightening as the first. Thirteen Chairs was also good with a fun format- horror stories within a ghost story.
Two recent adult horror novels I've enjoyed have been The Night Sister and, a personal favorite, The Boy Who Drew Monsters. I still haven't gotten over the twist at the end.

My all-time favorite "go-to" horror/scary book (that still scares me after 3 readings!) is Stephen King's "The Shining." Nothing is more scary than the description of the fire hose unraveling, or the bushes shaped like animals in the topiary starting to move!!

Since Halloween is sneaking up on us, let's talk horror! Do you have a favorite horror author or novel? What should we all be reading to prevent us from turning out the lights this October?
I recommend House of Leaves for a book that will leave you frantically flipping pages, in an attempt to escape whatever follows in the shadows over your shoulder.
If you're a vampire lover, then King's classic story cannot be missed. This one will make you anxious to open your curtains once the sun has set.
This book is just plain weird, but also terrifying. Inter-dimensional creatures, a drug called soy sauce and some truly bizarre stuff going on here.
