Sera | 71 comments I don't know about others but for me the most emotional books are those that really end up staying with me and are almost always 5 star reads for me. I'm always looking for a good tear-jerker. So what books have made you cry?

message 2: by Tina (new)

Tina Real stories of animals and how they saved lives etc. Dean Koontz has 2 out now. There was one about a library cat. Oh, and the refuge for animals near their time. A few ladies would take them in and care for them. I bawled like a baby. Not sure I can do those much anymore!

message 7: by Thomas (new)

Thomas | 63 comments I've not yet experience emotional issues since the day i started reading my first picture book.Though i usually shed some tears when a book of a moving story had been turned into a movie(Exp: The Fault In Our Stars Book #2 Volume 1 - When He Came Back A Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters Parody (Young Love) by Josh Wyatt )

message 8: by Sadaf. (new)

Sadaf. Zulfikar | 31 comments The first book that made me cry was - 'The last song' by Nicolas Sparks! I couldn't believe it at the time because I don't easily shed tears but it really got me crying.

message 9: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 418 comments Jojo Moyes books tend to make me cry. Me Before You was probably the worst (tears wise).

The First Last Kiss by Ali Harris is probably my most recent tear jerker. One to be read in the privacy of your own home :-)

message 10: by Liz (new)

Liz (LizMax) | 22 comments Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman made me cry...a lot. The tears were needed and it inspired some happy changes in my life, so it was worth my sob fest.

Janani(ஜனனி)⁷ (ironkittyrebel) Allegiant,The fault in our stars

message 12: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 15, 2016 09:39AM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Believe it or not, Cujo is one of the saddest books I've read (that ending made my sob)

I cried almost every chapter of The Lovely Bones

A Boy's Life has an extremely sad scene, as did Lonesome Dove

The Loveliest Dead by Ray Garton made me sob at the end

message 13: by Abigail (last edited Nov 09, 2015 11:52AM) (new)

Abigail | 24 comments The Lovely Bones
Still Alice
Three Wishes
The Legend of Lavan Firestorm. I really liked this book, but then the hero dies. WAAAHHH. It was a shocker.
Oh, and The Never Ending Story. When the horse dies. SOB!
Also Spellfall and Into the Land of the Unicorns. They had very emotionally wrenching endings. Cloud Nine by Luanne Rice Spellfall by Katherine Roberts
Into the Land of the Unicorns (Unicorn Chronicles, #1) by Bruce Coville Three Wishes by Barbara Delinsky

message 14: by Karthikeyan (new)

Karthikeyan Murugesan (karthikeyan_murugesan) Does crying at "The Prince's Tale" Chapter in Harry Potter 7 count?

message 15: by Amrita (new)

message 16: by Maina (new)

Maina | 26 comments I finished Me Before You last night and my eyes are all red and puffy today. I'm going to need a few days to deal with this one lol.
Others that have made me cry are The Book Thief, The Notebook, and The Light Between Oceans

message 18: by Phani (new)

Phani Raj (phaniraj) | 78 comments The only book where i couldn't stop my tears is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

If you can include comics, then I tried innumerable no. of times while reading Manga:Naruto and One Piece

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

The only book that immediately comes to mind is Message in a Bottle and I think the only reason is because when I was reading and crying I was on a train on my way back from school. Lady sitting next to me asked me if I was okay.

message 20: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) The very first book that made me cry was Little Women (view spoiler)

My Sister's Keeper - Oh my goodness. Talk about being blindsided by an ending.... I know now to always have tissues with me when I read her.

Izzy & Lenore: Two Dogs, an Unexpected Journey, and Me - I love love love dogs, and who wouldn't' love the little cutie on the cover of this book? (view spoiler)

Winter Garden - My mom & I are besties, but when I was growing up I would go for months without saying a word to her, and we lived in the same house. I am also great friends w/ my sister, but I'll admit I have a little baggage from childhood due to Mom going easier on her than me. The present time story line really hit close to home for me b/c it touches on mother/daughter, sister/sister relationships. The 2nd storyline, the seige of Lenningrad in WWII.... I can't even imagine.....

Redeeming Love - I love this book, man how I love this book. The life this woman had, and how she was able to rebuild herself with her faith.. I don't normally read anything with religious themes or tones to them, but this book really hooked me.

These books didn't just make me cry... I had a sob-fest while reading them...

I love books that make me cry or laugh out loud, so I'll be going back and shelving some of these books.

message 23: by Loner (new)

Loner | 10 comments Khaled Hosseini's works are all too real to imagine up for a single being and they nearly always make me break down into tears. I most recently read Jay Bell's Something Like Summer and Jennifer Niven's All The Bright Places.. Tear jerker, both of these books are!

message 24: by Ash (new)

Ash (ashthemagicbookdragon) All the Harry Potter books, especially the last 3, The Lunar Chronicles, The Fault in Our Stars......probably every book I've ever read. I can get emotional pretty easily lol.

message 26: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 241 comments I don't really feel a lot of emotion while reading books, usually...unless it inspires great feelings of awe within me. That said though, I cried at Marley and Me - so much that even though I own the book, it's too much to put myself through to read it again; so I've only read it once. When the movie adaptation came out, my mom really wanted to see it, and the critics called it "a heartwarming story of love". More like a "heart wrenching, heartbreaking story of love"! The ending scenes (I won't give it away completely) were so sad they had me sobbing. Literally: sobbing, and sniffling all over the place.
Also, TFiOS, most definitely makes me tear up. I've heard the movie version was also sad (can't bring myself to watch it, as I'm a huge fan of John Green...and I fear that it won't live up to the book, like 90% of movie adaptations.) but the book...oh man. I re-read it every now and then, and I always cry; from about the time Hazel rescues Gus at the gas station, all the way to the end.

Juyee (juyee_98) | 16 comments The last book that made me cry was Hold Still by Nina LaCour . It was a simply beautiful and heartbreaking book.

message 34: by Shefali (new)

Shefali Gupta Gone with the Wind. It is very difficult to control my emotions when a very strong character in a story breaks down or worse dies... here when Rhett Butler breaks down. I did not realize I was crying until I put down the the book.

message 40: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 21, 2016 05:39PM) (new)

I must admit my heart has hardend over the years when it comes to books. By the time I actually found an intrest in sad books or books about disasters, I had read so much that it didn't really affect me when a character suffered or even croaked (there are many acceptions to this though).

Overall, I do feel with real emotions while reading, but I'm just not one for waterworks.

I've read the time Traveler's Wife 3 times now at least. the emotion in that novel never grows old. what's more, I'm half in love with Henry myself. :)

message 42: by Sera (new)

Sera | 71 comments Yes, loved it. Can't wait for the movie. The trailer looks amazing!

message 43: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Ramirez (melissaramirez) | 241 comments I absolutely loved "Me Before You"! I was just at the bookstore yesterday and saw its sequel, "After You" on the shelf...but I'm hesitant because I actually thought the ending, even though it was pretty bittersweet, was solid.

Doesn't strike me as the kind of book that needs a sequel.
I'm also excited for the movie version!!

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green . That book made me cry. It was heartbreaking beautiful. Those are the words I'm using to describe it. Another book I read this year that made me cry was Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys .

I have a question has anyone ever shred tears of joy over something that happened in a book they're reading?
