Tom | 282 comments So I took a look at Wikipedia, and found that that the Skye Boat Song used as the title music for the TV show is a combination of a Scottish folk song (Skye Boat Song) and an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's poem of Sing me a song of a lad that is gone.

The interesting bit, to me is that the original lyrics of Skye Boat Song tell the story of how Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped after the Battle of Culloden dressed as a serving maid. His boat was bound for the Isle of Skye which is the same place to which Stevenson's lad is journeying. Click the link above to see the original lyrics and the poem.

Normally I don't go in for reusing old material, but I think this is brilliant.
