I know isn't it awesome?? Happy to be on the same team again Margaret! (I didn't get to watch last night's TWD episode yet... hopefully tonight or tomorrow night)

It was more a "wondering" or a "pondering" if Amanda and I would end up on the same team again rather than a request but I 'm quite happy that Sonia took it that way!

message 14: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments Hey team! I am so excited to start! And here I thought I was going to give team challenges a break for a while. ;) Yeah, right.

I only know a few of you (hi Mom!) so shall we introduce ourselves?

I'm from California and I read pretty much anything that I come across, though my favorite genre is and always will be fantasy. My favorite authors are Terry Pratchett, Patrick Rothfuss, Joe Abercrombie, Richard K. Morgan, and J.R.R. Tolkien. I don't have room to list all of my favorites but those deserve a special mention.

In my free time I knit, spin, write, and I'm also learning to paint.

message 15: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Hey Everyone!
Alex I remember you from Wheel!

I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. I love to read and will read almost anything! Mystery, YA and historical fiction tend to be my favorite genres! One of my favorite books this year so far is Sky Burial An Epic Love Story of Tibet by Xinran

If I 'm not reading or taxiing my children around then I love to bowl, hike and bake!

message 16: by Alex (new)

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 2 comments Hey guys my name is Alex and I am from South Carolina. While I do not watch TWD I may have to DVR it just to be able to keep up with the thread. My favorite literary genres are Fantasy, Action, Horror, and History. I am systematically attempting to read all of the books in my local library, even if I realize this is a project I may never finish. It forces me to read some books I would have never touched previously (like Westerns). I refuse to read chick lit or anything with an embarrassing cover.

The absolute worst thing about me is that I have never read Lord of the Rings.

message 17: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments Hi Team!

I live in Oklahoma. I'm also a huge TWD fan but I haven't seen any of the new episodes yet. My husband is torturing me because He wants to wait until we can watch a few at a time.... we'll see how long that lasts. I did just pick up the first 2 compendiums of the graphic novels to keep me entertained for the moment.

My favorite Genres are Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Fantasy and Romance of all kinds. Some Historical Fiction thrown in too. I wavered back and forth with signing up because of the Holidays. They don't mesh well with all the reading I like to do, lol. My husband has also roped me into starting my WoW game back up but that never lasts long! Thank God for Audios :)

message 18: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments LOL! I think one of the worst covers I've seen is Let Them Eat Cake (Vampire Sentinel, #1) by Ravyn Wilde . I'm not even sure where I first saw that but yeah...

message 19: by Alex (new)

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 2 comments Yes that is a cover that would make me skip the book.....and thankfully because it is paranormal chick lit ugh

Netflix is awesome for binge watching Nichole! I prefer to watch that way rather than tune in each week!

Sure, go ahead. :)

As soon as I'm done figuring some things out with my Celtic teams I'll make a quick "rules at a glance" to put in one of the top posts.

message 29: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (everlastinggrace) Hello team! I am an artist from No. California and yes, Amanda's mother. We have a lot in common and it is really fun being on the same team. I think half of our time we spend together we are talking about books and now that she is learning to paint, we have another common subject to discuss. Life is good. :D

I agree with you Alex, I will not touch a book with an embarrassing cover. I will read chick-lit but it has to have depth and good character development. They are hard to find and I am always looking. My favorite genres are hard to pin down because I look for the content and depth first and then the genre, sometimes I am all over the place. I have recently discovered Sci-Fi. I have a varied range of reading interests and I positivity know what I don't like and one of them is anything to do with vampires, nope!

I have no idea why I love The Walking Dead but I do and I am a big fan of the show. I guess I am a walking contradiction. My favorite book of the year has been: Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis by Timothy Egan and the most interesting has been: What It is Like to Go to War by Karl Marlantes

I love to discuss books and life and whatever you all want to talk about. I can get quite gabby. What is the official start date for this challenge?

Laura | 9707 comments Countdown to challenge start is HERE!!

message 31: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (everlastinggrace) 18 days! I am ready right now! lol....I'll work on being patient and lining up books from my very, very long tbr list.

Seems so far away! Though I am sure it will fly by. I thought this past week flew by! Tomorrow is my favorite day of the week rolling around again!! I love Tuesday's as it is my bowling league night.

What are you reading now Margaret? What is everyone else reading? ( ha sorry, everyone, I will not only add to my own tbr but I 'll make yours grow too!!I often ask what everyone is reading. You may find something you like!)
I am currently reading Lee Child's newest Jack Reacher book Make Me (Jack Reacher #20) by Lee Child and Craig Johnson's newest Longmire book Dry Bones (Walt Longmire, #11) by Craig Johnson

message 33: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments I'm listening to Spider's Trap (Elemental Assassin, #13) by Jennifer Estep and reading Master of Crows (Master of Crows, #1) by Grace Draven .

My next audio (tomorrow?) will be White Trash Zombie Gone Wild (White Trash Zombie #5) by Diana Rowland and next ebook will be Mariner's Luck (Scarlet and the White Wolf, #2) by Kirby Crow .

I keep trying to talk my husband into reading The Longmire series because he loves the show but he's currently going through The Game of Thrones series. Maybe after that, we'll see.

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 2 comments Is anyone watching American Horror Story? They are certainly trying their best to push the shock value. Thus far I am not liking it as much as the first two seasons.

I have had a discussion or two with Margaret and am happy to have her on our team.

I've been watching it and I agree with you. So far I don't like it at all because the shock value is being pushed so hard. They've lost all of the subtlety that made some of the previous seasons great.

I miss Jessica Lange. Freak Show was my favorite season so Hotel has been a huge disappointment so far.

You are correct Alex, we have had a conversation or two. I thought I recognized your avatar though it is a new one.

I am currently reading: Medicine Walk by Richard Wagamese a new author to me and I am in love with his writing. I am listening to an audio of: The Monuments Men Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel which is getting better as I delve more into it. Then last but not least: The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton which is Thomas Merton's autobiography, one of my favorite authors.

I am like Laura, I always want to know what everyone is reading and then build up my tbr because 2,000 or so is not enough! lol

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 2 comments Yes my avatar is new, I was playing around with a guitar in our local music shop and decided to take a picture.

I have only watched the first two seasons of American Horror Story and absolutely loved season 2. The storytelling in this latest season is not as tight as it was in the first two.

The Game of Thrones books are hands down -- as a whole -- some of my favorites!

Hiya!! Popping in since there's so many of my ex-teamies in here....

message 43: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 447 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Joanne. I love to read anything YA, especially YA fantasy and paranormal. I just find that adult books bore me. I have to be really interested in the plot to pick up an adult book. My favorite book of all time is Nevermore (Nevermore, #1) by Kelly Creagh .

In my spare time other than read, I love doing special effects makeup and crocheting. Anything crafty really. Oh and making youtube videos.

I LOVE the Walking dead and my dream is to be a special effects makeup artist on the show. I just want to make all the creep walkers. I keep up with the show and watch it every week. I'm so happy this thread has other TWD fans!

As of right now I'm reading Sweet Madness by Trisha Leaver

My shelf is ~ tower-teams-iv

Anyway, I came across this one, and thought to share it with my fav TWD fans:

Hi Joanne, Ohhh can't wait to see what YA books we have in common!
It's lunch time here for me so I'll add your shelf to the list later tonight after my bowling!

Enjoy your afternoon and evening everyone!

Now that was fun...I don't think I am young enough to enjoy some of the "hunks" but loved the cats! and of course Benedict Cumberbatch is always easy on the eyes. Looks like you all have a good time with your meme war. lol :D

Hi Joanne!
I haven't read Nevermore. I'll have to give it a try once the challenge starts.

That would be amazing if you could become a special effects makeup artist for TWD. I'm sure you could make some great walkers! :)
