Here!
Hey Everyone! I'm your mod mentor for TT4. You can find me in the Rainbow Snake thread, but I'll pop in here to say hi. Feel free to message me if you have any issues.
Hi all! I'm pretty new to the group. This is my first time in Tower Teams Challenge and my first challenge in this group too. I'm so glad to be here!
Hi Preethi, Tower Teams last year was my first group challenge ever. I loved every minute of it, so hopefully you will too :)
Hi everyone, I'm Stephanie I'm 24 and live in Sydney Australia but you will find me in here at different times because my sleep pattern is never the same, I might be here during the day or the night but either way I'm always up for a good chat. I am one of those people that love to talk but when everything goes quiet I tend to also for a bit before I get back to talking again. This will be my second Tower Teams challenge and I'm really excited to get started, I'm only just now getting back into team challenges after getting really burned out in the last Wheel-A-Thon that it took me months to get back to normal for me reading wise, so I hope it doesn't happen towards the end of this one.
Hi Stephanie, I know what you mean about burning out. This month was the first month this year I haven't had a group challenge and I have been looking forward to it immensely.
What I love about Tower Teams is you can pretty much read what you like and I think that makes all the difference. I have so many books just sitting there waiting to be read that I haven't been able to because they don't fit an allocated category. I am enjoying choosing a book because I just plain fancy reading it :)
Of course my challenge addiction means I won't be able to help myself when new bright and shiny challenges come up :)
Hello Emma, It sucks big time getting burned out, never had it before I started joining team challenges but they are addictive so I can't but join but I skipped the Gladiator Games because I felt like I needed the break and that seem like a really intense challenge so after 4 months I'm really glad that I joined this one, I have been feeling like I need to jump back into a team challenge and meet new people and talk lots about books.
I do like that Tower Teams lets you read what you want as long as it's 100 or more pages, it more go with the flow which I really like.
I was the same when it comes to my challenge addiction, it go so bad that I was doing 2 team challenges at once and with another starting as the other 2 finished which is what burned me out bad that it took about 7 months to get back to reading normal.
Well a little more about me then - I'm 25 and live in South Australia. Are we all from Australia? This is my first Tower Teams challenge. I've done some others in the past including the Gladiator Games (which was intense Stephanie but still fun!).
I'm going to try and get through a lot of my long books - they are just sitting on the bookshelf for months (years). I always put them aside and prioritise books due back at the library.
Most importantly I'm going to read the last game of thrones book - I started it July last year and never finished. I'm going to start it again this challenge so please hold me to it!!
This Tower Teams is different from the last one, they had buddy reads which was crazy with how many there were. I'm looking forward to see what kind of goals they have.I tend to read a lot of shorter books that are a 100 - 150 pages, sometime up to 3 of them a day and at the same time I will have a longer book 200 - 400 pages going that I read a little of everyday.
I only ever read the first game of thrones book, by the time I started reading the second I kind of lost interest I kept trying but gave up at 100 pages, I even stopped watching the show.
I listened to the GoT series on audiobook, I don't know if I would have had the patience to read them, they are so long. It seems like there are a lot of Aussies in this group. I'm a bit older at 40 and live in Canberra. I read most genres and I generally read 1 - 2 books per week and listen to an audiobook a week depending on the length. As tower teams falls over the holiday period I usually read more around this time than the rest of the year :)
I've never done a buddy read before but it does sound tricky. I whizzed through them all until the last one...I don't know why since I really liked them!
There is a list of goals here
When I read the first book it took me 2 weeks with reading at least 50 pages a day and reading other books in between, I got sidetracked when I started the second book and it took me a year to pick it up again but by that time I had lost interest.I did a lot of series buddy reads, and everyone read at their own pace so we were all reading different books but we still had fun talking about them. I had never actually down a buddy read before TT3 and I haven't done once since, not a lot of people read the same books as me and I don't like knowing that I have to start it at a certain date, I only ever have 4 books planned a month and then I just read what ever I feel like.
That is a lot of goals.
I'm not that fond of buddy reads either and I only do a couple a year so I'm glad we don't have to do them for points this year. I very rarely do BOMs either for the same reason you said Stephanie, I really don't like having to start on a certain date. I did quite a few for TT3 last year and haven't done any since. Mind you, there were a coup,e of books I read for BOMs during that which were fabulous and I never would have read them otherwise. So, I might do one or two for TT4 if the mood strikes :)
I haven't done a BOM before, I don't like the idea of reading certain chapters a day, if I really like a book I read as much as I can probably finishing the book fast I don't want to have to slow down to answer questions. But also they are never a book that I'm interested in.
I'm guessing by your name you are a fan of the IAD series. I love it too, Kresley Cole has to be one of my favourite authors. I really like her Arcana Chronicles series as well.My favourite IAD book is Demon from the Dark, I love, love, love Malkom :)
I'm almost your age too, Ashley. Actually I'm 24 right now and will become 25 this Feb. And no, I'm not from Australia. Seems I'm the only one not from Australia here? I'm actually from India:)
This is my first Tower Teams challenge as well, but one of the appealing things about it is that we can read whatever books we want. It needn't fit any specific genre requirements. Right?
I am not an audiobook fan. I've tried audiobooks several times in the past, but I find that I don't enjoy books as when I listen to them. I prefer reading them. Also, I seem to have this strange way of spacing out and not concentrating, when I listen to audiobooks. So no audiobooks for me. Sigh! This is a pity really, because most of my commuting hours and working hours would be improved a lot with those!
And I'm no good at buddy reads either! I just took a look at the goals list. There are 929 GOALS????? *Keeps staring at the list*

They did the goal thing for Gladiators and I found that we could generally read what we wanted and the books would just fall into a goal eventually. Thankfully they are only worth five points so I don't see us having to go overboard trying to fulfill them.
OMG Emma Demon from the Dark is my favourite book also, with Lothaire coming in second. I love Malkom, one of my favourite quotes from the book is: “Ara?"
She jerked her face up. "Huh? Where were we?"
But his expression had grown serious, the lesson forgotten. He interlaced his fingers and said, "We are bound."
"Bound?"
He collected a piece of rope, knotting it.
"Oh, you mean bound?"
He gave a nod, then drew in the sand.
An infinity symbol? "Clever demon, how did you know that...?"
He was gazing at her with a question in his eyes.
"Bound forever?" And somehow she met his gaze and lied, "Yes, demon. Bound forever."
As if to make her feel guiltier, he gathered her into his arms, cupping her face against his broad chest. His voice a deep rumble, he said, "Carrow is Malkom's."
She wanted to sob.
"Yes?"
"Yes," she answered, wishing that it could be so simple between them. Demon meets girl. Girl might be falling for demon.”
― Kresley Cole, Demon from the Dark
I have it on my profile page under about me.
I'm the same Preethi, I can't listen to audiobooks my mind just wanders away and I have no idea what's going on. I have to have see the words in front of my eyes otherwise I just don't take it in. I know a lot of people love listening to them but it's just not for me and I have excepted that.
A couple of my GR friends are reading the series now and I can't wait for them to get to Demon from the Dark. I think they have about three to go yet.I liked Lothaire's a lot, it's up there with my favourites.
I'm looking forward to the release of Sweet Ruin in December but I'm a bit concerned that they are totally new characters. Kresley Cole said she needed to introduce new characters because of where the story is going, so hopefully it will be great. I wasn't that fussed with the last one Dark Skye.
I love to recommend the series to GR friends and I also love to talk about it, I have reread the series so many times it's definitely my favourite series ever.I have only read Dark Skye once and am actually gonna reread it this month for another challenge, I really like the idea of new character it's gonna be interesting to see what the Møriør are and what they think of Nix and what it brings to the series.

Wonderfully put. that's exactly how I feel too. I have to see the words in front of my eyes to take in in!
Demon from the Dark is one of my favorite among the IAD series too. I hate betrayal in books so very much, but Kresley Cole has done a wonderful job with this book. One of the better ones of the series, IMO.
I'm currently reading Dreams of a Dark Warrior. I unfortunately really don't like it. I was looking forward to Regin's story a lot, but right now I have no idea how Ms.Cole is going to redeem Declan.
I'm glad you liked Lothaire though. I have something to look forward to after I somehow plug though this book then.

Its been a while since I read Dreams of a Dark Warrior but I think it was towards the bottom of my list. I tend to remember the ones I really liked and I don't have much memory of that one at all.
Yep, just went over my review of it from last year and I didn't like Declan either and couldn't get past his actions - whatever it was they were.
It would be great to be able to take it in but audiobooks just aern't for me. I love books were they hate or just don't like each other, I tend to get frustrated when it's love at first sight. I'm okay with betrayal, I of course get angry and yell at the character but I love to see to what lengths they go through to make up for it, to prove how sorry they are for what they have done.
I love Regin and Declan's story, like I said above I love the lengths they go through to prove that. Kresley is such an amazing author that even if you don't like a character in the beginning she has you loving them at the end.
I so agree about instalove, it really drives me crazy. It makes a story completely unbelievable and often has me rolling my eyes.Even the books of Kresley's that aren't my favourites are still enjoyable reads, she really is a fabulous author.
I know right, who really falls in love that fast I mean I used to read a lot of Historical Romance books and I really hated when they tell each other they loved them after a day of knowing them. You have to get to know a person to really fall in love, what if they tell them and then a couple of days of getting to know them they turn out to be an ass.Same, they might not be favourites but they are still great reads. She is definitely my favourite author.
I was always adamant that I would hate audiobooks...but then I decided to give it a go whilst driving and now I love listening to them! I always prefer a physical copy of a book but it's more interesting than listening to the radio.I agree - I hate instalove - seriously take some time to write a build up into the story!
I think it's great that lots of people like audiobooks, I have tried them a bunch of time but they are just not for me.I prefer when they meet they hate each other, so much more entertaining to read.
I used to have the same problem with audio books where my concentration would wander and suddenly I would realise it was the next chapter and I had no idea what had gone on in the chapter before. However my current job has number of monotonous tasks that don't really require too much brain power and I have found that listening to an audio book whilse I am doing them makes the time go quicker. I also try to listen to books I own print/e-copies of and I have been meaning to pick up for a while but have never quite found the time. This means that at any time I can pick up the book and read instead.
I too am not a fan of instalove. Instalust or instainfatuation maybe but I do prefer seeing the relationship develop through out a story.
Firstly, I would love to have a job where I could listen to audible books! I'm so jealous!Instalust and instainfatuation is sorta forgivable because you can lust after someone straight away, but I agree that I still prefer a nice slow burn when it comes to romances.
Checking in!!!! :) Thanks for the invites Ash and Nick. Looking forward to another TT. NBRC was my first GR group and TT was my first challenge so I love this group challenge!@Preethi: Hello there! Am Asian too!
What's great about a lot of you ladies being from Australia is that time difference is not too far so we could still catch up and chat here without waiting for half a day for a reply.
Hi Kathleen! *Waves*
Hey Feyde:) You are from India too? That's great:) I'm always thrilled to come across Indians in GR. Where are you in India? Is this your first Tower Teams challenge too? And if you'd believe it, my birthday is on Feb 6th, a day after yours!

Hi ladies, I just clarified a question in the Q&A thread so thought I would post it and the answer here in case anyone else had the same question.Question Like Gladiator Games are we able to use books that have already been read during the challenge to fulfil a goal or can it only be a book that is read after the goal has been displayed?
Answer You can use book read during challenge. This time there won't be time limit, so in theory you can use book read in first week for goal you get in last one.
Hi KathleenI think this is the only team that I have been in that we all are in the same timezone, normally I'm the only one and everyone else is in a different one.
That's good to know Emma, I asked a question a bit ago about when the books can be started and the answer was after the start time. Last time is was a week or so before and everyone had a big jump start, so this time it will be an even playing field.
