Inês Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments Hello everyone! Just checking in. It's my first time participating in tower teams and as a co-captain, so I'm really excited!

message 11: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2170 comments Hello all! Checking in. This is my first Tower Teams but not my first group challenge. The countdown to the start seems to be taking forever...

Hey Alison! Nice to be on a team with you again. I think I recognise some names from the Gladiator Games, so hello to the GG veterans - and new people to talk books with is always good too. I'm looking forward to this.

message 12: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments Hi everybody,

This is my second tower team challenge and being captain, although the format has changed since I last played. I am looking forward to be playing with you all.

message 13: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments This is my first Tower Team challenge I am looking forward to reading with you all.

message 14: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Sounds like it will be good fun. I like the longer slower challenges so should suit me.

Hi Sarah, can't believe we're on the same team again :-)

message 15: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 873 comments Hi all. Just wanted to check in and let you guys know that I am excited about TT4. This is my 2nd go round, because I did participate in TT3.

The addition of the goals this time around is definitely going to make things a lot more interesting.

message 16: by Renee (new)

Renee (reneeconoulty) | 3309 comments Judy wrote: "I have a question about the goals (I've never done them before) If one of us reads a book that meets the requirements, is the goal completed? "

We used the goals in the Gladiator Challenge and decided to spice up Tower Teams by including them here too. The mods will set up a spreadsheet for your team which will auto generate the goals. Once someone has read a book that meets a current goal, they will post that information on this thread. One of the Captains or Co captains will enter the information into the spreadsheet, and a new goal will be generated.

It's up to your team how to manage the goals. You can work with first person to finish a goal or people can volunteer to cover a particular goal, or a combination.

message 17: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Judy, I'd never heard of Yhi either so did a bit of googling too. Don't really know any of the aboriginal gods. Sun and creation seems pretty impressive. I'm a little disappointed in the picture though. Some of the other teams gods are working some serious abs :-)

message 18: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I see many people planning their reads already so I was wondering are any of you planners or do you read whatever you're in the mood for.

I'm mostly a mood reader but I do make lists of books that have caught my eye or books I have been meaning to read so that I remember them.

I usually just read whatever strikes my mood, unless I am doing a challenge that requires a particular genre or theme.

message 20: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I tend to plan what I'm going to read then completely ignore the plan and read what I feel like :-)

I usually have a few ARCs that have to be read by a certain date so I will try with them but I like switching genres depending on my mood and what I've just read.

I read pretty much any genre but have been reading a lot of YA fantasy recently. Getting a bit fed up with it and need to switch but not sure what I fancy.

message 21: by Inês (new)

Inês Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments I'm also a mood reader :), although I usually plan my reading 2 or 3 books ahead, depending on what genre I'm into at the moment.

message 22: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Was just having a look at the scoring and it looks like the best way to get points is to go for bigger books at the bottom of the range.

Had a look through my TBR and while I don't really plan the next Lunar Chronicle's book Winter is coming out on the 12th. There is no way I won't be reading it and at just over 800 pages should get 100 points.
I've also been thinking about reading the Outlander series which are all pretty hefty books. This might give me a push. Has anyone read them?

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2170 comments Ha, I'm a bit of both I think. Since I started doing challenges I've spent a lot of time working out which books to read to fit (and loving it!), but I still change things around as I feel like it. I do like to swap genres though, and I don't read a series all in one go.

I do know that I have to read Crusade pretty soon after the challenge starts, as a friend lent me all three books, and it will niggle away at me that I need to return them. They're all huge (this one is 700 ish pages). I was only about a third through the first one when Gladiator started, and as it was so chunky I abandoned it until the challenge was over. It sat there looking reproachfully at me all the way through! I need to be a bit quicker to finish no 2 and not make the mistake of starting it before the challenge. ;)

I'm pretty glad that we get extra points for longer books this time. :)

message 24: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments Recently I have been reading shorter (under 350) books so I have some chunkier books waiting in the wings I guess this is a good time to bring them out. Next up for me in the lunar chronicles series is Scarlet.

I read Outlander (just the first book) many years ago and I remember being bored by it. I might reread it one day.

Promise of Blood, Adaptation, and Dragons of Autumn Twilight are other possibilities for me.

message 25: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I have to admit I mostly read shorter books. Don't have a great attention span.

I did read the first Outlander as a buddy read. Enjoyed it for the most part but it was loooong!! Keep trying to convince myself to read book 2 but it's over 1000 pages. Don't think I've ever read anything that long.

message 26: by Inês (new)

Inês Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments I mostly read books between 400/500 pages, but I'm planning on reading Winter, The Name of the Wind, Outlander and several BOMs, so we can get extra points.

message 27: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments So far I only have one buddy read planned I hope to do more and jump in on some BOMs

message 28: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I keep saying I'm going to do BOM but somehow never get the timing right. I either forget or read ahead.

You get points for answering questions as well as asking don't you?

message 29: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I think you can jump in on some of the old threads as long as someone comes in the thread to talk with you about the book.

message 30: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I've never been able to read non fiction. I Started one a couple of months ago got about halfway and gave up. Maybe I just haven't found the right books.

Had a look at BOMs and I would read any of them but they're all still quite expensive to buy. Have volunteered for Six of Crows as that's been on my wishlist for ages. Really like Leigh Bardugo.

message 31: by Inês (new)

Inês Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments I've never read one of Leigh Bardugo's books, although I'm really looking forward to reading Six of Crows.

message 32: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I read the Grisha series a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Was a bit different from the usual YA fantasy books. My only complaint was that there was a bit too much relationship angst.

Still read all three books back to back but then I'm a bit like that with a series.

message 33: by Inês (new)

Inês Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments My TBR pile is huge, so I haven't got around to it, but they're definetely on the list!

message 34: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Tell me about it. I set up an TBR collection in my kindle for books I own but haven't read and there are over 100 books in it.

Should really stop buying more :)

message 35: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I have so many kindle books because of freebies and sales I really need to read them. I just bought Stormdancer (The Lotus War, #1) by Jay Kristoff for 2.99

message 36: by Inês (new)

Inês Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments It's like a hydra. For each book we read, two more take its place!

message 37: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Ooh that looks interesting. No I will resist :)

Currently trying to decide whether to buy the Rosie Project as it's been reduced.

Lol.

I blame GoodReads. My pile was never as big before I joined.

message 39: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I have been wanting to get Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins and now it is on sale but I have resisted buying it so far.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Delitealex wrote: "I have been wanting to get Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins and now it is on sale but I have resisted buying it so far."

It's always dangerous buying the first in a series. I can never stop at the first and ends up costing a fortune.

message 41: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments So true Alison especially when they put the whole series on sale Thats how I ended up getting Vampire Academy and Gail Carrigers YA series (1-3)

message 42: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments Hi Everyone,

How's everyone doing? Less than 2 weeks to go!

message 43: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I'm really excited to start. I've been trying to finish up the books I'm reading for other challenges.

message 44: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments If I see something good, I keep thinking, maybe I should save it for when we start.

message 45: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I know I'm almost finished with 2 books I have to resist starting anything new.

message 46: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments It still seems like ages away to me. I want to start now :)

message 47: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments Finished 2 books for challenges and couldn't resist starting another I hope to finish before the first.

message 48: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I'm between books at the moment. I think I need something different from my usual YA or chick lit.

Thinking maybe something Halloween themed. Anyone else reading something scary?

message 49: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments Have you read Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper (Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper #1) by J.L. Bryan ? I'm on book 5 but haven't had a chance to get to it yet. I really enjoyed the first in the series.

message 50: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Think I've seen it before but have never read it. Might see if I can track it down. Thanks.
