K.N. (karmaplace) What themes should we have for our 2016 Themed Reads? Please list themes, themes and month combinations, or second (or third or fourth) any suggestions by other members!

We will vote on the 2016 themes in December.

Female Authors
Medieval
Outsiders and Rogues
Urban Fantasy
Dragons
Alternate History
Witches
Paranormal

K.N. (karmaplace) I would like to nominate these themes for 2016:

Steampunk
Female Protagonist
Lovecraftian - September or October
LGBTQ
Post-Apocalyptic / Dystopian
Greek/Roman Mythology (ie, anything inspired by or "flavored" with)

message 4: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I second these!
Dystopian
LGBTQ
Greek/Roman mythology.

I'd also like to see:
Zombies
General horror (we don't cover it much)

message 5: by Unna (new)

Unna (shoutsilence) Dystopian, Lovecraftian, General Horror and Zombies all sound good!

I'm not sure what to call but "Survival" themed?...What about Historical Fiction? or you know, loosely based on history? or even an "Alternative" History where if something did or didn't happen how society would be today and such? That might be neat.

Satirical or Parodies of novels seem to be a kick to read, especially if it's a well-known novel that is parodied. Not sure if anyone would be up for it, but Philosophy? Maybe less philosophy and more like "Gear Turners", novels that make you think.

That's all I have so far...

message 6: by Unna (new)

Unna (shoutsilence) Oh I completely didn't see that first list...Alternate History was already done. *facepalm* ah well, lots more in that theme to read! So I suppose I re-nominate that theme :)

message 7: by K.N. (new)

K.N. (karmaplace) We can repeat themes, especially since we'll pick by vote! Nominate any theme at all whether it's old or new.

message 8: by K.N. (new)

K.N. (karmaplace) Also, Shout, you have me thinking about how much I love Bizzaro and Experimental fiction, Antinovel, Metafiction, and Surrealism!

message 9: by Arielle Rae (new)

Arielle Rae Aguilar | 34 comments Can we do things like, strong female character, unusual couples, books with magical schools, fish out of water tropes etc? Or does it have to be an actual genre/sub genre?

message 10: by K.N. (new)

K.N. (karmaplace) Any of those are fine! :)

message 11: by Arielle Rae (new)

Arielle Rae Aguilar | 34 comments Ooooh then I would like to nominate:
'Fish out of Water' books
Strong Female Protagonist
Girls Disguised as Boys
Epic Fantasy (re nominate)
Fairy Tales (re nominate)
Fantasy Romance
Sci fi
Women pirates
Complex worldbuilding books
Warrior Women
Doorstopper books (long books)

message 12: by K.N. (new)

K.N. (karmaplace) The poll is up for the first quarter of 2016. I believe I got all the suggestions on there; the only one I chose not to include was the generic "Science Fiction" as we have monthly "Science Fiction/Fantasy Novel" reads ("Epic Fantasy" is more specific than "Fantasy" hence it was included).

Lindsey (cadence64) | 5 comments This may be a silly question, but where are these polls? I can't seem to find this one or the one for the January books.

edit: I used the email to access the polls, but is there a way to get to them from the group page?

message 14: by K.N. (new)

K.N. (karmaplace) If you're on the group page, on the right there should be a "Polls" link. The latest polls should show up towards the top.

Lindsey (cadence64) | 5 comments Awesome, thanks!
