This book is about edible plants, which are; corn, onion, pepper, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, pumpkins, broccoli, beetroots, green beans and okra. These are all vegetables which are grown in the garden. The book is so interesting because of the way it uses rhyming words to describe and illustrate the pattern and conditions of growth of different types of plants. I liked it because it will help when teaching children some rhyming words in a natural visual scenario such as that of plants growing in a garden. It also caters for visual and auditory learners when read in the class using an overhead projector. It also helps children to understand different plants and their growth patterns as well as encouraging children to use their imagination. The book can also help during guided reading outside the classroom, for example in the garden. It is a good book for cross-curriculum learning because it provides knowledge for Science, Geography and English subjects. In English it can be used to illustrate how to use rhyming words in a story and children will be encouraged to create their own stories with rhyming words. The book can be useful when teaching prepositions, up, down and around. It is suitable for age group 4-6.
