So tough a question! I will stick to recent reads to narrow it down. Of course, Storied Life, but the other three of the last year...Empty Mansions by Bill Dedman, Songs of Willow Frost by Jamie Ford, and the Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Phillip Sendker. Okay, that last one was a little over a year ago but still a favorite.

This is so hard! My favorite book changes weekly. I have loved every book I've read by Zevin. If I'm going with adult fiction I would choose: The Storied Life (of course), Gone Girl, and Room.

That's like choosing your favorite child, so even though I believe the lines between adult fiction and YA fiction are often blurred, and that YA fiction is meant for adults, too, I will divide as follows:

Adult Fiction: To Kill a Mockingbird, Hound of the Baskervilles, and Fahrenheit 451

YA Fiction: Elsewhere, Whirligig, and Harry Potter

2.) The World According to Garp

3.)Plainsong
(which is, actually, the 1st book of 3 related books, the others being Eventide and Benediction)

Ask me again tomorrow and the list might be different, but these are always in the top 10, with The Shipping News always number 1.

I have been looking at this question and the responses for days now trying to see how I could answer it. I don't think I can ever pick a favorite or even just 2 or three favorites. It depends on what book do I need at that moment - a light read to take me away, a story that gives voice to my emotions, writing that makes me think. The reasons books stay with me are as diverse as the books themselves. So, here are some of my recent favorite reads (including Storied Life of course!): Five Star Reads.

There is always a great book, I like more. It is a long list of books I love. With the "Soried life" included now.
