Lindsay | 132 comments Sorcha - Lupita Nyong'o, I know this is rather out-of-the-box casting, but seriously think about. I never could see anyone as Sorcha for the longest time (though I usually see myself in playing the main character), but once I saw her in 12 Years a Slave it made really think. She has the beauty and fragility and the quiet strength that completely encompasses Sorcha. I love her and she is the only person I can see as my favorite heroine of all time.

Red - Michael Fassbender... yeah, seems weird since he was the evil slave owner of Lupita Nyong'o's character in 12 Years a Slave, but Michael Fassbender was the first person I was as Red when I read this book. He also has red hair, so yeah.

Meg (bewarethenestor) | 2 comments Sorcha - Katie McGrath from the BBC Camelot (she plays Morgana).

Red - Tahmoh Penikett with a red buzz cut for some reason? Was this in the book? Read it a long time ago...

Also, I imagined her brother Finbar as Robert Sheehan (Nathan from Misfits).

I will fall into his well-chiseled body and manly embrace any day.

Liv (liviebutton) I thought I might add that there is a website called Casting Sevenwaters.

It's a website where people suggest and vote for who should play the characters. It also includes the other novels in the series and Juliet Marillier's other works.

You might find some inspiration there. :)

Meg (bewarethenestor) | 2 comments Thanks Olivia! Hm.. the website suggests Chris Hemsworth as Red and now I'm torn... He'd probably work for all the romance books, though.
Bah! Who needs inspiration when you've got Tahmoh Penikett am I right? Right! :D

Liv (liviebutton) Haha, right!

Beth (stormingthelibrary) | 5 comments Can I just jump in as a new person here? I'm going to, but apologise if I'm breaking etiquette.

Because, though it would pain me deeply to see him with his curls lopped off, can I put forward Tom Hiddleston for Red? I could also get behind the Michael Fassbender suggestion, mind.

Sorcha breaks me, I have no clue.

Laura | 14 comments I defo agree with Sorcha being Katie McGrath and Red being a ginger Chris Hemsworth.

I think Lord Richard could be Charles Dance.

Kate | 39 comments I recommend Jessica Brown Findlay for Sorcha. LOVE Charles Dance for Richard.

In a just world? For Red? Peter Dinklage would blow the doors off that character. He has the depth and the heart and he'd have us all in blubbering puddles of tears.

I love Peter Dinklage so damn much. He can play all the roles.

I fully support Peter Dinklage as all romantic leads.

Obviously we need to be in charge of Hollywood casting. Because seriously.

Pujashree | 3 comments Why no casting for the brothers?! Espescially Finbar! I am thinking Tom Hiddleston would be perfectly dreamy like Finbar's eyes!

Also Olivia Wilde as Sorcha!

Lisa (lisapond) | 95 comments Is it wrong that this thread immediately made me think of this?

http://www.danbarham.com/dinklage/

My life is sad, ha.

In general, though, I pictured the characters, especially Sorcha, as being younger but I can't remember if the book specifically references her age. Does anyone remember how old she is? I pictured her as being fairly young.

I can't think of anyone for the brothers, not actors anyway, I just sort of comprised an image in my minds eye.

Now you have me imagining Peter Dinklage reciting Red's two big monologues in my head.

I am both happy about this and sad that it doesn't actually exit in reality!!!!

The story progresses over the course of many years. The main events, starting with caring for Simon, she is about 12 I believe and ends with her married to Red at 16.

It seems very young, but in relationship with the era it takes place it is fairly the norm.

Lisa (lisapond) | 95 comments That makes perfect sense, and would explain why I was imagining Sorcha as being so young. She was young!

I'm no good at casting but I definitely would imagine a younger actress filling the role. Maybe Sarah Bolger. She's Irish, too!

I just finished watching (yet another version of) Jane Eyre and as soon as I saw Michael Fassbender as Mr Rochester I thought of Red. I came the forum to suggest him and here was his name, in the first post I read! I think he would be perfect :)
