It's actually werecats in Stray, no wolves. I'm reading it right now for lunch & thinking about putting it down unfinished. BUT! It's a personal thing. The writing, characterization & plot are all pretty good. Maybe a little too good because I don't like the heroine. I have a daughter the same age as the heroine & luckily she doesn't have this one's attitude or I'd probably strangle her. The heroine has an attitude similar to one of my boys when he was that age & it about drove me over the deep end. In other words, it's a little too well done & close to my heart in some ways.
My favorite werewolf books are by Patricia Briggs, starting with Moon Called. The heroine isn't a werewolf, but hangs out with them. She's a skinwalker & turns into a coyote.
My daughter & I read a lot of this kind of story. We have a bookcase devoted to it, so if you want some other recommendations, I can tell you what I liked. I'm a 50 year old man though & I've noticed that what my 20 year old daughter likes & what I do can vary. I can get her to make recommendations, if you'd rather. She hasn't read "Stray" yet, though.
My son is getting a little full of himself these days himself so I know what you mean...LOL! He is only 13 so its only just begun. Ill look up moon called though I haven't read any wherewolf books so I just need a starting point. I'm reading the city of ashes now second in the mortal instruments series and it has them in it and I'm likeing it. Just a fun take nothing to seriously read. Has a bit of everything in it! Thanks for the advise :)
Wait until he hits 15, that seems to be the worst for boys for some reason. There is a reason for unconditional love -- it's the only reason half of them make it through their teenage years alive. (Yes, me included. I was a horrible teenager.)You might also like Kelley Armstrong. Her 'Women of the Other World' series is very popular. The series starts with Bitten & is about werewolves for the first two books. I liked books 3 & 4 better, which weren't about werewolves, though. My daughter disagrees.
Lol...Jim I am gonna have my handful with him. I have a friend that has a 14 year old son and everything she tells me about her son my son seems to do the next year! Its like teens are just wired wrong for a while. Hopefully something you try so hard to instil in them sticks and you can claim that little piece so you can pat yourself on the back someday! Ok I have added all these books to my paperbackswap requests none are available yet so I cross my fingers and hope some get posted there soon!
Oh and Jim I think its really so great you and your daughter can bond over books and you take the time to read some of what she is interested in love that! I also read and exchange books with my daughter she is only 11 but a very advanced reader so she reads all the young adult books and this summer read the shopaholic series so I need to read to see what she is into and communicate with her. She is so quite is has been a good way to bond.
It's a long few years, but once they got through high school & out on their own, suddenly I got smarter again. Now that they're in their 20's, we get along very well.Briggs & Armstrong are very popular. You may have a quite a wait on PBS. You might want to check Amazon or Ebay & see if you can't get a good deal there or get them from the library to test the waters.
Thanks a lot Jim I believe you seem to be a very smart man indeed! Thanks for the recommended books I might have to visit the book store today and stock up LOL! My TBR list is getting huge need to make a dent in it ;)
wow it would be awesome if this thread could just make up a list of werewolf books that people could copy out and use to hunt down some titles. It's hard to find good werewolf stories
The Compleat Werewolf is the title short story by Anthony Boucher. It had one of the more interesting takes on a werewolf that I've seen.Patricia Briggs has done a pretty good job on them in her Mercy Thompson series, along with the Alpha & Omega spin off. I liked the way Laurell K. Hamilton handles them in her Anita Blake series, too.
Except for Boucher's story, I can't readily recall any werewolf stories I've read that aren't part of an urban fantasy setting. Armstrong, Butcher, Harris & more all seem to have them.
Never Ceese by Sue Dent is a different take on it. Not urban fantasy. She's a GR author.

My daughter liked both "Stray" & "Bitten". I didn't care much for either. I think it was the type of female POV. I really liked Armstrong's "Dime Store Magic", though. We have most of her books.
also some of the later books from Kelly armstrongs series conentrate onwerewolves as welllI started loosing interst when she started on savannah-could not get into her character
