Daniel Hakes | 4 comments About two years ago....I found a list online if all the Star Wars books that were out at the time all listed in chronological order . I had always loved SW books and had a great idea ....what if I read all these in the same order listed here?
So....I got started with Lost Tribe of the Sith: Precipice (2009), by John Jackson Miller .
I then just started reading....listening....all the time to all things Star Wars. I took little breaks for some SWORD books and other things that stole my attention like a re read of re Lotr series and Ready player one.... But it has been mostly SW.
I am 120 books in so far and still going strong!

Anyone else do anything crazy like this?

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments It's honestly not quite the same thing but my husband and I are watching through all the Star Trek shows and movies together. Both of us have seen parts of it before, but it's fun watching in some sort of order.

Roughly what part of the Star Wars history have you gotten to so far? And are you thinking of playing any of the video games set in the Star Wars universe?

Jennifer Swerbensky | 75 comments Where did you find this list. I've been meaning to attempt to make it through all the Star Wars books and my husband said I should start with the Karen Traviss Republic Commando books because he really enjoyed them. But if I commit to reading a vast majority of the books (there certainly are a lot) I kind of want to do them chronologically. I'd love to have a list on where to start them. (Are you doing the comics too?)

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1906 comments One of the coolest parts about the Star Wars books has been that Lucas Entertainment has always considered them canon, just like the movies. So in theory, there shouldn't be too many continuity problems while reading this massive series. The interesting thing to keep an eye on is weather Disney and JJ will hold to that as well. Either way, it doesn't really make a difference if you are enjoying what you are doing.

This may not be the list Daniel is referring to, but Lucas has recently started publishing a chronological list at the front of all the new Star Wars books.

Mark Catalfano (cattfish) I read the Darkover series, which was ~40 books. That's my claim to fame!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Rasnac | 336 comments About the coıntinuity issues, even though Expended Universe was considered canon in the Lucas ltd. days, George Lucas himself never bothered to notice that; he retconned as he liked and destroyed some classical EU stories that is considered as important as the movies for SW fans.

And since Disney took over, they retconned ALL of the Expended Universe books and comics, especially the ones post-ROTJ. So if you're reading to get a complete history of SW universe, you'll be wasting your time because it is all erased from existence by the fraking Mickey Mouse.

Micah (onemorebaker) | 1071 comments Wookipedia has them listed in timeline order and updates when even the hint of a new one is on the way. Very dedicated wiki community there. I am a huge EU fan. Excited for the new movies. Great stuff all around. Just don't read the articles linked from the books if you don't want spoilers.

Come on, cheer up, none of it is erased from existence, that's nonsense. Just because they're making a new (and hopefully good) movie shouldn't kill your affection for dozens of books written with love by a small army of authors over the past couple of decades.

I tried this for a short time. But after the Timothy Zahn novels featuring the Thrawn Trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn books everything is not very interesting. The New Jedi Order books onward did not catch my eye.

Have you included the comic books in your chronology? In the Star Wars: The New Essential Chronology the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi: Knights of the Old Republic stories are counted in the chronology. I am currently trying to read the novels and comics all set before A New Hope. The Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, Vol. 1 - Force Storm and its sequals by John Ostrander are set in the Pre-Republic Era when the Je'daii use both the light and dark side of the Force while living the Thyton system of their galaxy.

If your only going to read the novels than good luck to you. I think that would be quite an accomplishment but you won't get all of the history just reading the novels. Thats a little food for thought.

That's cool. I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

Daniel Hakes | 4 comments I have read through a few of the comics but have mostly been doing the books! As for where I got the list I do not remember....copied into a word document and saved it...no URL anymore. I am past the New Jedi Order series and into the Fate of the Jedi series now. I feel that I will have to go back in though and use the Wookipedia list which as was stated above...is a very complete list, because I have missed some now that my list is 2 years old!

You have given your self mission impossible. They are constantly publishing new books, one of the great things about the EU in my opinion. Good luck to you. For myself I read them as I find them used here and there. Usually buy a series piece meal and then read them once I have it complete. The one off books I read as I feel like it.

I have a friend that reads nothing but Star Wars in chronological order, lol. Whenever a new release comes out, he just shelves it until he gets to it in the constant, neverending cycle of re-reading each book over and over.

Ben (bennewton_1) I mentioned in another thread but I recently finished Honor Among Thieves by James S.A. Corey and it was a really fun read.

I enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought Razor's Edge, which I've nearly finished. It's pretty good as well, about the crew of an Alderaanian gunship who have turned pirate. Good to read Leia's perspective by a female author (Martha Wells) and there's a lot of other lady characters too so it's a nice change-up. The prose doesn't fly by quite like the Corey one but by no means is it slow.
