Katherine | 103 comments I don't know about anybody else but I tend to stick within a certain genre and rarely go out of my comfort zone. So I am going to challenge myself and anybody else who wants to join in to read a book in a genre you rarely if ever read.

My challenge is going to be a book of poetry. I have avoided poems since I was a senior in high school and had to do a bunch of poetry analysis.

Leave a post with what you are going to read and then post again on your thoughts after you finished the book.

What a great idea! I'd read some fantasy which I tend to avoid at all costs!

Katherine | 103 comments Ok so in honor of the challenge I am going to read the 2014 Pulitzer prize winner for poetry. It is 3 Sections by Vijay Seshardi. I will report back after I have finished it.

Wish me luck.

What a challenge this is! I rarely read romance and will avoid them at all cost as well. I will cave in during this holiday season by stepping aside from my usual lineup of literary fiction, short stories, mysteries, classics, esoteric foreign authors, biographies, and nonfiction. I will read one of those fluffy and sappy paperback romances!

Katherine | 103 comments Alright well here are my thoughts. I didn't read the whole book of poems, which is crazy because it is only 72 pages long. I did read about 25 poems.

I don't know, I process the words and I get the gist of the poems but they just don't make any connection. This could be along the lines of why I never get modern art. :-)

I always enjoy poems more when they are being read aloud/performed. Maybe you should try an audiobook of poetry. You can never go wrong with Maya Angelou. :)
