Killing Hitler

I love time travel themes and in fact wrote many novels based on time travel, including two about WW2. I also studied a lot military history. Killing Hitler is definitely not a good idea, as someone more intelligent and a better strategist could have taken power after his death. One possible such successor would have been Reinhardt Heidrich, the head of the SS Security Branch and known as 'the Dolphin of Hitler'. Heidrich, also known as 'the Angel of Death', was highly intelligent, fanatical and extremely efficient. To have him in charge of the Third Reich would have been a pure catastrophe...and not for the Germans.
There was a monthly giveaway here a while back The Assassination of Adolf Hitler. I even wrote a poem about it. Click the link to read it.
I agree with Michel. I'd heard that Hitler's obsession with Stalingrad tied up a lot of troops and resources. His advisers were trying to guide him away from such ideas, but Hitler wouldn't hear of it. In fact he inadvertently wrecked their chances of winning. I had a theory about killing Hitler, not as a child, but before the war began and I thought it could potentially lead to much more dangerous and catastrophic things. The use of nuclear weapons in the second World War showed the devastating effect on a population. This made world leaders realise they could not be used in a war situation without global consequences, but what if this had not happened and they had no history of its use in a war situation.
