The book has great characters and creates a good setting. The side characters also are well fleshed out as well and have good character development most of the time.
Interactions between the characters are also great but there are few interactions in every chapter. Most of the time is spent in the characters' minds and they just brood and contemplate about everything around them. That gets pretty boring after a while. Character inconsistencies arise.
'Show, not tell' is barely employed and scenes that would have been greatly expressed in direct speech with the characters reactions are just written in indirect speech most of the time.
These problems are fine for a shorter book but when it gets to 900 pages it becomes a drag to get through. Could have been edited to around 600 pages according to me and it would have been a much better book.

Given the commitment that this book takes - it is, again, 900 pages! - I do not recommend getting involved.
