Science Fiction Book Club discussion

Hi I'm new and apologies in advance for the vagueness of my description. I'm looking for a book who's tittle and author I have completely forgotten. What I do remember about the book is that it is about a boy who's father disappeared mysteriously at a young age. At some point he accidentally discovers his ability to travel into the past by, I think, literally falling into the past. There he meets girl with a baby, I think, who has the ability to travel into the future. Together they set out on their adventure while being chased by steampunk or clockwork robots of mysterious origins. That is all I can remember about the book please help me.

I don't know what it is, but I sure as hell want to read it if you ever find out! :P
