I didn't love this book, but I thought it made an excellent movie! I was intrigued with this quote from one of the producers, who described his desire to film this book even before it was released: "We were really taken with the idea of a young woman who, in the beginning of the story, isn't allowed to look at herself in the mirror, and, by the end, was a completely empowered warrior." (full article: "'Divergent' Producer Douglas Wick On How To Make A Successful YA Adaptation" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03...) That quote made me appreciate and re-evaluate Tris's story quite a bit.
I also think they did a great job with the setting - I loved the way that Chicago looked in the film.

I was so excited for this movie to come out that I read the book in 3 nights. I really enjoyed the book and the characters. And I thought the movie was well made and the characters were cast well. But I was so surprised by some of the changes in the movie. This is probably because as a reader I get sucked into the story and can vividly see things happening that when they play out on screen if it's not how I imagined it then I become disappointed. I will tell you, it was strange going to see this on opening night and being 1 of maybe 6 adults in the theatre. I haven't been surrounded by that many pre-teens/teens since I was one!
I'm interested to see how the next book/movie play out.

3 nights!? Well done. :)
Have you gone on to books 2 & 3? Do you plan to?

I have to cop to only seeing the movie (oddly enough in Chicago, where the story is set).I thought it was an interesting concept, despite some funky pacing. I really liked Tris' development--especially that she didn't have to lose any parts of herself to evolve. She just grew. That was pretty refreshing.

I haven't started the other books yet. I have them but I feel like I need a break in between or else I fly through them too fast (ex. Hunger Games).

For those of us who have read the book and seen the movie - how did the two compare for you?
What scenes do you think translated especially well? Which scenes were you waiting for, but were ultimately left out of the movie version?
