I haven't read Ireland but I'm enjoying the way the story is being told and the whole idea of history being biased in it's telling.

Tipperary does back and forth but it seems to stay with the main story.
Ya I'm nearly finished it, very enjoyable though. He can draw you into the story and it's characters
Finished this last night and really enjoyed it. It's like reading a history book but with fictional characters involved and a complicated love story going on in the background. Once you can get over the fact he happens to meet every important irish historical person over the course of his life, then your doing ok. He writes about Tipperary as though he lived there and loved it himself and gives great descriptions, I could picture the restoration of the castle perfectly. Very enjoyable.
I agree with you Emma, it wasn't a book I was rushing back to at any stage. I did enjoy the way the historical aspect of Ireland was told.
What did you think of April? I thought it was interesting the way the different characters depicted her, Charles was biased, his mother seemed harsh and was the friends opinion the real April then? Charles makes out there marriage was inevitable but I always felt he was the last resort and maybe she felt guilted into it after using him for so many years.
Well, I gave it my best shot but after almost forty pages, I packed it in. This book is too dry for me. When I started telling myself I could put it down when I read fifty pages, I knew it was time to stop.
I think it's delaney's background that causes the dryness of the it, it reads a bit like a history book
