Dreamer (dreamerj) Silly question, thought I'd throw this out there to see if someone has a good method for organizing e-books. I have multiple TBR lists on Goodreads and multiple Wish Lists on Amazon.com; however, as I add e-books to my Kindle app, it gets lost with the dozens of other e-books. Has anyone found a good way to organize, or create lists, on your Kindle/app?

Janie (sjelli11) I personally take books off of my Kindle and put them onto my computer. I have a spreadsheet for my TBR that I also use to track when a book releases, if I have a copy (I put hardcover, paperback, Kindle), and when I finished reading it. My books are all in a folder where they are separated by author's last name in alphabetical order. I try to keep my Kindle relatively "empty" so to speak. I have folders for each month of the year and then a series folder. I put a couple books in each month's folder and then all the books I need to finish for any of the series I'm reading in that folder.

Dreamer (dreamerj) Love the idea of keeping my Kindle relatively empty! Spreadsheets do sound like a good idea, thanks! How do you move e-books off your Kindle and onto your computer for storage in the meantime?

Janie (sjelli11) My Kindle's charging cord is a USB, so I just plug it up to my computer and drag/drop. (I have a PC, not sure how that works with Mac)

Heidi | 2372 comments I have folders on my Kindle for each type of book (YA, cozy msytery, romance) and only load a few books into each folder (the top books I want to read). I only keep books on my Kindle I plan to read in the near future because if I saw 300 unread books loaded on there I would want to hurt myself!

Dreamer (dreamerj) Perhaps it's because I use the Kindle App on my Android phone and Nexus 7; I wasn't aware that I could create folders within Kindle itself. Maybe the app does not allow it; do you have an actual Kindle that allows this?

message 7: by Janie (new)

Janie (sjelli11) I don't think the app allows it. I have the app on my Android & Nexus 7 too!

Dreamer (dreamerj) Thanks everyone for your input! =]

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) The Kindle App on my Ipad allows it. I have all my books sorted into folders.

Oh yes. Sorry. I have the folders on my actual Kindle becase that is where I read most of my ebooks from. On my Kindle App I only download 1 or 2 books at a time as I only read on my phone when I am at the Dr. office or places like that.

That's the same thing I do haha. Mostly my Netgalley books.

Caffeinated Fae (caffeinatedfae) I am more of a nook reader but maybe this can translate to the Kindle. I have all of my books organized through shelves on my nook. A recent update to the Samsung nooks and the new Glowlight Plus have enable the devices to sync the shelves. I also created a access database that I hope to finish in the near future.

message 14: by Dreamer (new)

Dreamer (dreamerj) Thanks Kristy, I am currently building an Excel file myself, as the Kindle App on Android devises has no folders, as far as I can tell. An Access database sounds awesome, I don't know how to use it, but I understand its a great program!

Caffeinated Fae (caffeinatedfae) I had a lot of fun figuring it out. Now if only I would have kept up on it. I have over 4000 nook books and over 1500 kindle books and over 500 actual books. I wish I would have kept up with it. I have so many to enter now I tend to just smile and hope that it happens itself. There are also a bunch of apps that you could do too. LibraryThing just came out with an iOS app which is nice to keep a running list of all of your actual books (scans the barcode).

Hannah (Hannah, Fully) (hannahfully) I keep my organization relatively simple...

Just read, NOPE (for the books I didn't like), and possibly favorites/memorable/recommendable.

I don't think any of the Kindle apps have folders. o.O

message 17: by Caffeinated Fae (new)

Caffeinated Fae (caffeinatedfae) The Kindle app on the Nook Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 allows you to make shelves to organize. If you long press on the book while in your library it gives you the option of adding to a collection.

message 18: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (Hannah, Fully) (hannahfully) OHHHH. I thought you were talking about subfolders, like a collection in a collection. :p

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Something I'd suggest is making folders for sure. I have:

Hunger Games (for all three of the books)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy

Syrena Legacy

basically I have 'em organized by series or authors. If I have more then two by a particular author I make room for their work excluding series. I have one for Neal Shusterman and David Estes, I have one for all four of my Selection books, and even a folder for library books.
