There was a Nicola Cornick book once -

In "Safe Haven" by Nicholas Sparks there's a scene at the end where 3 of the "good guys"Safe Haven are literally trapped in a room. The bad guy, a psychotic maniac is going to kill them. As a reader, I couldn't possibly see how they could escape. Sparks really convinced me of that. But, then ... Believe me I was still anxious and upset for half an hour. Sparks did an excellent job.
