Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) This folder is where community members can share informational notices about upcoming science fiction conventions, dates, locations, and then do things like find other community members who are going, arrange meetups, carpool, discuss what panels they might like to attend/sit on at that convention, where to buy/make a cheap costume, who else is going, general gossip about that convention, etc.

The preferred format is for the community member who wishes to post a discussion of that convention to open a brand new thread dedicated to that convention under this 'Upcoming Sci-Fi Conventions' folder. Any community member can post an announcement to a conference so long as it has an active science fiction component. If you would like me to add or update an active conference to this master-list drop a notice in this thread (along with the link to your thread) and I'll add that link to this list.

I have tried very hard to include fan-run and literary society run conventions that promote the artistic and fan-centric side of Science Fiction fandom, while excluding the big, commercial for-profit conventions that target the fan-run conventions with bogus 'licensing' legal suits. If you see a convention on this list that are jerks and should be blacklisted, drop a message in the thread below and I will delete it! At the time this was posted, all of these conventions were all verified as active.

If there is an active thread, the link leads there so you can coordinate with other community members. If not, it just goes to the con's main webpage.

Dan Thompson (dan_thompson) | 3 comments This one has already passed, but it'll come around next February: http://www.condfw.org/

This one is just next weekend:
http://cephvar.tamu.edu/aggiecon

And this is the local Austin con that has thrice swelled to become a WorldCon:
http://www.armadillocon.org/

I also go to ApolloCon and FenCon, which you have already listed.

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) ConDFW, AggieCon, and ArmadilloCon just added to the list! If you want to open up a dedicated thread to the ones coming up, be my guest! Any other Space Opera Fans from Texas?

message 4: by Alicja (last edited Sep 01, 2014 08:10AM) (new)

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) There is also Sci-Con in September in Tampa, FL (http://www.scicontampa.com/).

Also, there is the Florida Supercon that usually runs in June-ish (http://floridasupercon.com/). Its not just sci-fi but its the closet one to me so I figured I'd mention it.

Just added Sci-Con and Florida Supercon to the list! Thanks!

Umm... that would be me. Houston, one each.

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) @Gibson - if you'll be going to one or both of these cons, feel free to open up a thread announcing the dates and maybe a little about the con from a personal perspective if you've been there before. Once you do, I'll put a link to your thread in the master-list above.

Will do... I doubt I can get my "stuff" together in time for FenCon in October, but I'm gonna try to make it to AllCon, ConDFW, AggieCon, ArmadilloCon and ApolloCon next year. I've attended ApolloCon twice (2012 & 2014), so I already have some established contacts with that one.

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) @Gibson - these threads don't have to be 'official' things. Just 'Hi ... I'm going to this Con on this date ... is anybody else going? Maybe we can meet up at one of the gaming sessions?'

message 10: by T.D. (new)

T.D. Wilson (tdwilson) | 13 comments There are two in Columbus, OH that need to be added. MarCon in March and Origins (more gaming, but has had a sci-fi focus) in June.

Just added them, thanks!

T.D. Wilson (tdwilson) | 13 comments Hmmm. Looks like they moved MarCon to May this year. It's gotten bigger.

In April: Swancon (https://2015.swancon.com.au)
In June: Continuum (http://continuum.org.au/c11/)
In October: Conflux (website TBA - they still have last year's up)

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Rose City Comic Con in Portland, OR. Sept 19 & 20.

message 16: by Wampuscat (last edited Feb 03, 2015 08:02PM) (new)

Wampuscat LibertyCon in Chattanooga, TN June 26-28, 2015.

David Weber is GOH's this year.

message 17: by Gerry (new)

Gerry | 2 comments Don't forget Mysticon in Roanoke, VA February 27 through March 1. We have Sean Maher as Media GoH and Peter David as Author GoH!

message 18: by Anna (last edited Feb 03, 2015 09:11PM) (new)

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) Just added the three Australian cons, LibertyCon and Mysticon, as well as a little con in Northampton I'm going to in March, ConBust.

I did -not- add the Rose City Comic Con, Sarah, because after researching it I discovered it's one of those big commercial conventions. I only list the fan-run conventions because the commercial ones nickel and dime you for every single thing above the already inflated admission price (not to mention they have mega marketing budgets and don't need any more help from ME). I'm sure it's awesome, but it's not a fan-run con.

message 19: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Bergeron (scifi_jon) | 370 comments July 31st to August 2nd (I think the dates fluctuate to stay on the last weekend of July) is Tampa Bay Comic-Con.

message 20: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Bergeron (scifi_jon) | 370 comments Necronomicon ran by Stonehill runs in October every year in Tampa.

message 21: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Collins (lcollins) My hands down favorite con is MidSouthCon in Memphis, TN. Midsouth Con happens every March There are several tracks including a Writer one!

message 22: by Anna (last edited Jun 18, 2015 05:02AM) (new)

Anna Erishkigal (annaerishkigal) Thanks guys!

@Jonathan - I added Necronomicon to the list, but not Tampa Bay Comic-Con. This list is to feature NONPROFIT, FAN-RUN conventions staffed mostly by volunteers which focus on the literary or 'fan' aspects of fandom and not the big for-profit commercial conventions. The Tampa Bay event is the latter, unfortunately. Doesn't mean it's not great, but not right for this list.

@Lisa - I added MidSouthCon. Thanks!
