Mykl Walsh (RFSaunders) | 149 comments I thought it might be a good idea to formalize the process of putting a group together that is interested in (John Robin's) idea of using our collective powers to select One Promising Project at a time and push it through the last mile or so if it stalls after achieving 3/4 or more of it's funding goal.

I'm looking for people who would like to commit to being a part of the effort. We'll use credits or cash along with recommendations to support promising projects that need help with their End Game.

In this thread, we'll take names of those who want to be part of this effort and once we have a sizable enough group to make a significant and fast impact, we'll take nominations for a project to support. Then we'll discuss the nominations and eventually vote to support a project.

Eventually Goodreads will not be the location for this effort, but it's a good place to launch it from.

If it works we might use a future Inkshares message board or I can set up our own webpage elsewhere.

I like the idea of going into "private session" for the discussion and voting phase - but that's just something I'll throw out there - we'll use a democratic process and try to reach consensus on all decisions.

I don't think we should go too crazy with this and have it become a burden timewise or monetarily, but if we just did One Project every two months or so, I think we can have a nice impact.

Aside from this, we can continue our less coordinated individual efforts to support projects however it fits our own capacities.

I'm thinking that this kind of philanthropic group should exclude our own projects from consideration - we're trying to help the outsiders. Helping each other can and is being accommodated elsewhere.

If we reach an initial membership group of sufficient size to have an impact, we'll then try to recruit everyone who reaches funding, including those we helped.

For starters, I'll take names and email addresses (message me if you don't want to put your email address here)

As with my Anthology project, I think this will work best if we take a slow and considered approach to building this into something we can all be proud of.

We'll need a catchy name for this too - any suggestions?

I'll start the list under a temporary (non-catchy) name.

I'm in. I like The Inkshares Gang, or TIG for short.

Jamie Brindle (jamiebrindle) | 9 comments I think this sounds like a fantastic idea. At the moment, I'm not sure how much I could help as being in the UK, the shipping charge that has been (understandably) brought in hampers my ability to personally back projects as much as I'd like to. Similarly, a lot of people I can recommend to would probably think twice due to the shipping. Hopefully in the future the shipping costs will be a bit less, then maybe I could be more useful. Still, for what it's worth, I'm interested.

Yicheng Liu (liu0019) | 229 comments Well, I have done a lot of referrals and recommendations. But for some reason Inkshares didn't give me the credits for the referrals and I can't help. Though I would love to do something like this, but the depressing lack of credits is not helping. :(
