Mary Catelli | 472 comments Anyone else going to do NaNoWriMo this year?

I'm erratic about it -- and never sign up at the website -- but this year I have an outline ready to go and will see if I can churn them out.

Lynne Stringer | 172 comments I've done it before, but I don't have an idea at the moment, so I'm not going to go for it this year.

Jacquel (clairevioletthorpe) | 9 comments I'm s-l-o-w-l-y getting ready for it.

Wise. I once rushed an outline to be read of it and lived to regret it.

I just signed up today. Pretty nervous, but also excited.

What genre are you writing?

message 6: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 172 comments Never rush with NaNoWriMo, certainly not after it. Make sure you read through your work and have it professionally edited before you try and market it.

message 7: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 472 comments Lanae wrote: "What genre are you writing? "

High fantasy. Which is my typical genre. Though I'm experimenting with having an ensemble rather than a main character.

Good heavens. When you are done, you throw it on the back burner for a few months; then you revise it; then you probably go through that cycle a few more times before it's ready even for beta readers.

I shall merely mention that there is nothing like practice to make it easier.

We shall see! :-)

Good luck with yours! This is my FIRST. I've written short stories. But the longest story ive written was actually fan fiction lol. I accumulated 600,000 in a year but y already know it's WAY different when the world isnt already built and you know exactly who the characters are.

Not to mention it wasn't fantasy lol

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 44 comments I'm in. I suppose I shall be up at 4am to start writing!
A good thing that those of us in the US get an extra hour in the day tomorrow.

You'd be surprised how many people load it straight up. I've had people come to me (I'm a professional editor) and mourn the fact that their book isn't doing well. One look usually tells me why.

Mary Catelli | 472 comments Lynne wrote: "You'd be surprised how many people load it straight up."

No.

But I was talking about sane people.

message 14: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 172 comments Of course, people with sense aren't going to do that. :-)

message 15: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 472 comments Got my toes wet after midnight. 400 words.

message 16: by Quantum (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) sigh.

another year goes by and i still haven't done nanowrimo. my boss did it last year and even another coworker (a software engineer) did too. i'm a tech writer and i've been shamed by an engineer.

i uploaded my synopsis for a short story to wattpad a month ago and still have only 1K words.

nonanowrimo for me.

message 17: by Mad Giles (new)

Mad Giles (Giles A. Madding) (gilesamadding) | 2 comments I'm participating this year. It's my second time. So far it's going more smoothly than last year. I think the outline I managed to pull together beforehand is helping for now.

I hope everyone enjoys the ride. It really can be a lot of fun.

Kate Kulig (katekulig) | 6 comments I've been doing Nano for years. Some have been more successful than others. Whether I finish 50k or not, I think it's good for me to put that kind of focus on one project for a little while. Im hoping this year to see if I can develop realistic writing goals that I can bring into the rest of the year. I have a local group that is fun to work with--we get together at least once a month for just writing, and feedback,

message 19: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 472 comments 4100 words thus far. Once again I shall make some progress on the weekdays but do the bulk on weekends, it seems.

message 20: by Ashe (new)

Ashe Armstrong (ashearmstrong) Day 4 and I'm at just under 6900 words, which feels freaking amazing.

message 21: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 472 comments 5600.

Looks like I will, like previous years, have to make up on the weekends, though I've broken a thousand every day.

message 22: by Katheryn (new)

Katheryn Avila (katheryn_avila) I'm doing it this year & I'm on the site. I was doing really well up until yesterday lol. Now I'm 3000 words behind.

Happy writing everyone!

message 23: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie | 10 comments Are you all still typing away?!

I'm also doing NaNo for the third time. On word count right now (just over 30k) and looking to finish strongly with a few write-in sessions with local people :)

I hope you're all smashing word counts and building awesome characters who frolic through the amazing worlds you've built from the ground up.

message 24: by Ashe (new)

Ashe Armstrong (ashearmstrong) I'm technically behind but considering I started nano at 30K, I'm not upset. My nano count is over 25K and my project total is over 55K. My ultimate goal is 80K but if I can finish nano somewhere around 70, I'll be happy.

What genre are you writing?

Workin on the second book in my fantasy series. I like to call iit sixguns and sorcery to get specific. And yeah, I feel good. I hit 2000 words tonight, which was a first. I can say quite cconfidently that book 2 will be bigger aand better than book 1.

message 28: by Jason (new)

Jason Crawford (jasonpatrickcrawford) | 565 comments I'm playing this year, too, and doing very well - I'm up to 32598, almost a thousand words ahead of par :)

This'll be my third year playing and my second winning (assuming I keep it up). I'm writing a sequel to my so-far-unpublished fantasy novel Dragon Princess.

message 29: by Ashe (new)

Ashe Armstrong (ashearmstrong) I'd say having the sequel done would bbe a good time to publish it. You could crowdfund for editing and a cover.

Sounds really good :D

message 31: by Ashe (new)

Ashe Armstrong (ashearmstrong) I certainly hope it is.

What are you wworking on?

message 32: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie | 10 comments Ashe wrote: "I certainly hope it is.

An erotic grotesque horror that is based in rural Victoria, Australia.

Lots of blood, severed limbs and sex... not neccessarily in that order though lol

message 33: by Ashe (new)

Ashe Armstrong (ashearmstrong) Kinky.

message 34: by A.B. (new)

A.B. McFarland | 36 comments I did it and managed to finish for the first time. :) How did it go for everyone else?

message 35: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie | 10 comments I managed to finish a day early with 50,234 words... then promptly culled about 10k of those early December. oops!

message 36: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 472 comments 8000 words short. After letting it lie for a bit, am working at it again. May hit the quota by the end of January, but may not, because I am reworking what I wrote to be a stronger foundation.

Experiments are dangerous in NaNoWriMo.

message 37: by Ashe (new)

Ashe Armstrong (ashearmstrong) I finished, technically, 13K short, but my project total at the end was 67K since i started Nano 30K in. Going through my second draft and after completely rewriting chapter 2, I'm over the 70K mark on my way to 80K.
