Just hit the 50% mark. I had a bad feeling about this book as I started it, and wasn't sucked in quite as immediately as with TCOM, but it turns out I was just apprehensive because I had high hopes. Luckily, so far it's living up to my expectations. I do wish it had chapters of parts like TCOM though.
I'm very much a fan of Cohen, especially given what he's parodying, as well as the Discworld ents, where Rincewind is trying spectacularly hard to ignore them because trees don't talk. Oh, and Bethan wanting to be a sacrifice. Oh, and Twoflower teaching Death & the Four Hoursemen Bridge (it took me far too long to work out what the game was).
I was under the impression Death's daughter was Susan, only from the Hogfather adaptation I saw about half of once, but I guess Susan is someone else entirely.
And finally, the description of the hero on her way to find Rincewind had me grinning like a maniac all the way through the passage. Very good.
I actually have more to say about this first half, but I'll try not to write an essay and so end my comments here.

Susan is (view spoiler). I'm trying to learn how to do spoiler tags on something not too big to make sure I know how to do them later.
I like how the girl reacts after she's saved.
Oh, anyone who is familiar with the librarian character should pay close attention to the early scene when the wizards chase the beam of magic. As someone who read the later books before The Light Fantastic, I found it very amusing.

I'm going to refrain from checking who Susan is, so that all will be revealed to me when we get to the appropriate book (in January with Mort, I guess?) - I was more musing than asking, but thank you :)
I've never played bridge either, but I had to try and figure it out from "what goes across your water", or however Twoflower described the name.

What are you impressions of the first part of the book? What do you like/not like? If this is a reread, have you picked up on anything you didn't the first time around? Feelings since the end of The Colour of Magic vs. the first half of this one?
