I'm hoping this was all a mass hallucination of a deprived fandom. That was the worst episode yet. Just plain abominable.
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/sherlock-sex... Thoughts? (I shouldn't be looking up articles like this, I still haven't seen it XD)
YES!! I don't think the writers intended it that way, but it definitely came off that way. As soon as I saw the outfits, I thought KKK. It turned the suffragettes into faceless, voiceless women, while trying to preach the opposite. And I don't understand that scene at all. I get that it was meant to solve the murders, but it was soooo poorly handled, it didn't work. There were many scenes in the last half hour that were out of place and redundant.I have come to expect high quality shows, and this epically fails. I really really hope this is not a sign of where the show is going. Please let them learn from this and make a spectacular comeback in season 4!!
Don't be put off watching it, Veral! It was confusing, yes, and you can definitely critique it if you have the energy, but I don't think it's the sort of episode that doesn't have to be taken particularly seriously or really considered canon if you don't wish. I think Moffat and Gatiss jumped at the chance of making 19th century Sherlock and put as much into it as possible. It's not how I would have written it, but it's still worth watching, and the sets and costumes and Martin and Benedict's acting, plus the references to the canon are worth it.
Yeah, I think the not having to consider it canon is the best part about it. Sorry, Jo. I just didn't like it at all.

Benedict's and Martin's acting (along with the 19th century scenes) are really what redeemed this episode... Otherwise I'm afraid I just did not get the point of this it. There were a lot of unnecessary scenes like Rivka said, such as the Reichenbach fighting thing at the ending there... I mean, seriously? What was the point of that except for him to escape his mind palace? And did I miss hear it or did Sherlock call Moriarty a short ass? XD
But anyways... Another whole year to wait for a hopefully better season 4.
It wasn't one of the best episodes, but overall I enjoyed it I do have a question (with a slight SPOILER -- so anyone reading this should not read further if they haven't watched the episode): Has anyone watched the 1985 film "Young Sherlock Holmes," and if so, did the scene in "The Abominable Bride" where Sherlock, John and Mary are in the desanctified church remind you of the scene where young Sherlock Holmes, Watson and Elizabeth Hardy are viewing the ceremony in the underground pyramid of Rame Tep?
I have not seen that Kate! I might have to look into that.I do have a question about this episode....how did Sherlock get the drugs to begin with? Wasn't he in a high security prison?
It´s been a while since I saw Young Sherlock Holmes ( and I watched the abominable bride with a bby life stream so I could have missed something) but I didn´t see the paralell. But now that you mention ityes, they do have something in common...both trios are watching from the same angle if I recall correctly...and there is the spoiler about Rame Teps leader and who he turns out to be in the end...
I searched for the Rame Tep scene I was thinking of and found a clip on YouTube. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzahX...
As I was watching, I thought, "Well, maybe it's just a coincidence," but another search (why I didn't do this earlier, I don't know) shows that other people also think it was a deliberate reference: http://www.benedictcumberbatch.co.uk/...

I love that movie, so it is fun to think there was a deliberate nod to it.
Young Sherlock Holmes is amazing! And yes, that being a reference is more than possible. Gatiss and Mofatt reference everything else that has ever been done about Sherlock Holmes, so why not also this movie?
